I hated it. Absolute cheese. The music. The lighting. The whole moment was stupid. Plus he looks like a video game.

true dat, but even in war films is it possible to care about the characters. i dont believe that just because there's a battle going on doesn't mean you can't see how it is affecting the characters involved in it on different levels.

and regarding the point about the characters already being established...we knew john as a 12 year old, we knew kyle as a 30 something year old. this a different time in their lives, and i would liked to have seen more interaction and less action. that's all i'm saying. but that's just me

i actually loved that scene, because to me it showed how no matter how "human" machines try to be, they'll always fail when it comes to actual human train of thought. connor outsmarted a terminator not with a grenade, mine, or gun, but with a single rope. i personally thought it was a very nice touch

You are talking about a different scene. He is talking about Marcus and Kyle in the truck on the bridge when it smashed the hk in the air.

Yes, but Cameron has since said that his story finished with T2.

Yes, there is no time to explore deeper relationships and ideas in war films. Good thing we never got to know the characters in Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, etc. etc.

This was not a war film. It was an action movie - with little story behind it that did very little to advance the franchise. We learned almost nothing from this film.

And, I felt some things were just plain stupid.
  • Why send ONE lone Arnold model to take care of John?
  • They had Reese - but had no better security then a locked door?
  • Where were all the other Terminators during the jailbreak?
  • If Marcus is such a great infiltrator and could get that close to both Reese and Conner - why not assasinate them right then?
  • Are we actually supposed to believe that Skynet orchestrated that whole scenario - Marcus, through wild circumstances, ended up saving Reese, who ended up being caught, and Marcus met a pilot who had ejected, gets taken to their camp after a mine gets him, the lady helps him out, John lets him go, and he gives John the key to get in Skynet - REALLY???? Skynet planned all those random events??? Terrible writing. A fun movie for effects and sound - but that story just did nothing for me.

This franchise derserved some better writers.

ehh. I thought it was eye-roll inducing. The theme music kicking in at the exact moment was kinda cool when I was caught up in the moment, but afterwards, not so much.

Finally saw it last night even though I was really looking forward to it (that NIN-trailer just had such an awesome feel to it) and figured I would have seen it opening day. Oddly enough, this and Spiderman 3 are the only movies I made plans to see multiple times before I even saw it once (have plans to see it tomorrow, as well), coincidence?* Having lowered my expectations based upon the negative buzz I heard on the weekend, I can honestly say I enjoyed it. This movie didn't blow me away as the BEST EVER but I enjoyed it and do not regret my decision to see it a second time tomorrow. Great action in this movie, that aspect doesn't stop, but I do agree the lack of character development did make it seem somewhat generic at times. Speaking of which, despite being a fan of Bale it really seemed like at times he was phoning in this movie, something was missing. The intense scenes though (like the one with Marcus from the trailer, "You tried to kill my Mother...") worked well. I enjoyed Marcus' character, even if the river effects seemed a bit half-assed, as a whole I enjoyed his role. As stated previously, what's the deal with them giving away the "twist" of Marcus being a machine so blatantly in the trailers? I wonder if they kept that quiet beforehand if it would have come across more shocking and helped the movie get a stronger reaction. Otherwise a fun action movie, sadly I suspect Transformers will go over better but I highly doubt I'll be seeing that one twice in theatres.

[Show spoiler]The Arnold thing seemed a little off, although I had forgotten about it until he showed up so it was KINDA surprising. Oh yeah, and the motorcycles coming off the giant one was pretty cool, I really enjoyed the overall paranoia of the war in this movie. If they wanted to give the movie a different vibe than 1, 2, and 3 they did well.

*John Connor does not dance in a jazz club in Terminator Salvation, just a heads up.

Oh yeah, I also enjoyed some of the almost point-of-view camera angles used. Some of Marcus' action scenes and Connor in the helicopter had this, I think Star Trek used some similar methods for their big action sequences.

Finally saw it, I think the biggest problem is that the characters don't have room to breathe, because each scene is expedited. Those idiots who made McG cut the movie ruined the commercial prospectives of the film. At 2H20, it probably would have been much better. Still enjoyed it, but will look forward to an hopefully expanded version on blu ray. This theatrical cut doesn't deliver the promises to the max.

Yes, he was supposed to "lure" them to Skynet - which, of course, he did through completely random events, so they could kill John Conner using only one Terminator - and leave Reese "secured" with a locked door.

That makes perfect sense!

This should have been an all out assualt. Terminator's everywhere! We should have seen an epic battle to save the prisoners. Instead, we got 1 CGI Arnold.

I'm not saying people don't deserve their opinion that this movie was great - I'm just saying that, for me, the story elements just didn't line up and seem really contrived - with some characters completely wasted. (Seriously, I don't even remember if John's wife had any lines in the movie - did she even speak?)

no, maybe not shitloads, but it's SKYNET HQ for Christ sakes! There had to have been a fair amount of machines in there.

Trap Connor in a room surrounded by mini-gun toting Terminators and swiss cheese his ass. Movie over. Machines win.

Did anyone think it was sort of cool how the MACHINES are making the same mistake as human's did? They are relying on a HUMAN(Marcus) to do what they want and forgot that with a mind of it's own the human could turn on them?

I was thinking about that. I think I have to see this movie again. The more I think about it the more I enjoy it.
