Strength of schedule isn't everything. It matters but do you seriously think Notre Dame is a better team? Notre Dame would be a sizable underdog if they played Oregon and you know it. Not that it matters. If Oregon, Bama and Notre Dame all run the table it'll be Alabama vs. Oregon for the championship.

Being selected as the at-large team by the bowl. Not sure of the ordering of selection, but your best shot would likely be if 2 SEC teams made the championship game, since that would free up that spot (they would take a SEC team as their at-large replacement if a SEC team is in the championship).

Isn't the Big East still getting an automatic BCS invite? As far as I know that has not changed. And it seems like the Orange Bowl is where the Big East champion usually plays.

Big East is not assigned to any bowls automatically, but they do have an automatic BCS position. As far as I know, the only conference affiliations are the Rose Bowl (Pac 10 and Big 10), Sugar Bowl (SEC) and Orange Bowl (ACC).

if they stay undefeated and rutgers still only has 1 loss going into their final game, it should be a good one. but louisville will need to win that game. if 'BAMA stays undefeated in the regular season and plays georgia in the sec championship game and wins, then georgia would probably still get the invite and be the sec candidate for the sugar bowl. and i think a 2-loss georgia team vs. an undefeated (or 1-loss) louisville team would be a great game. and i realize that the big east doesn't have a conference championship game, but i don't think that would be a factor. they beat a decent cincinnati team, they beat pitt who took undefeated notre dame to 3 overtimes and they beat a decent north carolina team; so they have a pretty good resume for getting into the sugar bowl. |

Yeah last week ESPN did a mock bowl projections, they had Louisville vs FSU in the Orange bowl. I guess it all depends on who in's up in the NC game.

I've got to think that at this point as long as Oregon maintains a #2 ranking in the human polls then Notre Dame isn't going to be able to pass them if they both win out. Notre Dame's strength of schedule is going to take a hit the rest of the way with games against 2-7 Boston College, 5-4 Wake Forest, and 6-3 USC, while Oregon's SOS should improve with games against 3-7 Cal, 7-2 Stanford, 7-1 Oregon State, and then likely another matchup with either UCLA, USC, or Arizona State.

It would take some unlikely losing by some other teams. Florida would be the likely host team (Gator fans: this is the solace you should take from losing to Georgia). I can see the Sugar Bowl committee clamoring to nab Notre Dame or Oklahoma. No offense to Louisville fans, but the bowl's primary purpose is to fill hotels, and they probably think the other schools would be better suited for that.

Yeah, it's a virtual certainty that the Big East champion will end up in the Orange Bowl regardless of who wins the league. The Big East champion is going to be the least attractive team in the BCS as they traditionally don't travel well so they will end up in the bowl with the last choice of unaffiliated teams, and this year that is the Orange Bowl. The Fiesta Bowl is going to feature the Big 12 champ vs. an at-large (likely Notre Dame), the Sugar Bowl will feature an SEC team vs. an at-large (likely Oklahoma), the Rose Bowl will feature the Big 10 champion vs. a Pac-12 at-large, and the Orange Bowl will end up with the ACC champion vs. the Big East champion.

and if ND plays like crap against either team, that won't help as they'll lose human voters. as long as Oregon scores points it's all good since people pay attention to flashy stats and such more than a great defensive game, so Oregon is like the brand new flashy object that everyone goes gaga about, while ND is the solid, but boring object no one really pays much attention to, imo. |
