Cliff is suggesting that the UK will eventually be getting exclusive Paramount titles, i.e. stuff released by other labels in the US (so Kino, Shout Factory, VS, Criterion, perhaps even Fun City):

Imported this from the US… and I still haven’t watched it yet (as soon as I got the disc I would end up seeing it in 35mm&#128518
Great film

Will be getting Dark City and Pelham 123. Already have Witness but it's exciting what that could mean for other Paramount releases in the UK...

Incredible announcements, congrats Arrow for smashing it out of the park! Never thought we'd actually see the day they broke through to Paramount UK but here we are, and of course they're starting with the first US title I actually pre-ordered. Shame we got no heads-up on this deal though as I might've been able to hold off A Simple Plan at least...

Anyway, will immediately be getting The Taking of Pelham One Two Three as it's one I've wanted to see an upgrade of for ages (have suggested it to most boutiques with an MGM deal), and I'm very tempted to pre-order Dark City too as that's a cult film I've been constantly recommended and never been able to check out (the old BD went OOP before I could get it, and I didn't fancy chasing it...figured it'd get a fancy edition eventually, and here we are)! The Invisible Swordsman looks good too, will keep an eye on that one.

Not sure about Road House or Swordfish day one (never actually seen the former, and the latter I bought in a chazza a year or so ago and still haven't watched), but these are consistent with the kinds of film Arrow have become known for.

Hoping this means they will at least be able to port over some of the US releases. I'd particularly like to see Black Sunday, Night Falls on Manhattan, The Shootist, The Desperate Hours, The Tin Star, The Day of the Locust and Unman, Wittering & Zigo. I would've imported all those if they hadn't been Region A locked.

I'm sure they'll port over the other 4K titles I did import soon (The Warriors, American Gigolo, A Simple Plan), and probably Barbarella, Hugo and Narc as well (which I probably would've imported too, but the extras discs were region locked).

You're preaching to the choir, my friend. Anyone who has been on this forum for the past decade or so will know how often I used to bring up that title on here, and it's basically the holy grail of the Paramount library as far as I'm concerned. I got fed up and imported the Imprint disc for the time being, but will pre-order any upgrade from that at the drop of a hat (would've got the Criterion edition but considering the Blu-ray disc is likely region locked, I haven't been bothered enough to buy it yet).

Holy shit, yes Paper Moon 4K would be very tempting (love that film). I like the look of the current MoC disc but would be very, very tempted to buy that one again (I have been hovering over Paths of Glory and Touch of Evil since they were announced, and recently pulled the trigger on Cure recently).

Very exciting if it's not a limited selection! If I were to pick some Paramount titles from each of the above labels, I'd go with:

Criterion - Days of Heaven, The Parallax View, No County for Old Men, Real Life, The Furies; maybe even Nashville, Paper Moon, Seconds, Harold and Maude, Medium Cool
Vinegar Syndrome - The Keep, The Tenant, Child's Play ('72), Goin' South, Looking for Mr. Goodbar; maybe Congo, Sliver, Virtuosity etc (look like good fun tbh)
Kino Lorber - The Italian Job, Death Wish, Escape from Alcatraz, Gunfight at the OK Corral, Prime Cut, Rules of Engangement, Play It Again Sam, Posse, Pursued
Shout Factory - The Dead Zone, Clue, Silver Bullet, The Faculty

Not sure they'd go for the Fun City titles, especially considering they're mostly Region B friendly anyway (and don't think they'd want to put a small label like that out of business). But selfishly, I'd probably double-dip on Bad Company if they were to do it...

Paramount UK don't - essentially - exist anymore as a sales desk, so they must have done this through the US one... which begs the question why can't Criterion?

Genuinely fascinated as this is a twist I didn't see coming at all.

Btw, this is what I ordered in today's Easter sale, from HMV:

J-Horror Rising seemed to be OOS when I ordered it and now says 'sold out', so we'll see how that goes. But happy to bag the others, all titles I nearly pre-ordered anyway.

Whatever they did, it worked. Perhaps it was through Clint's contacts or something? Sometimes it's literally down to personal relationships with certain people at the studio, as Eureka used to have an exclusive avenue for licensing for the UK at one point (but that was definitely at Paramount UK, as it completely fell through when restructuring occurred).

Later there was a very limited flurry of Paramount licenses from UK boutiques but those were all through the usual channels and after months or even years of waiting to hear back (Hollywood Classics, Park Circus).

Sounds like Arrow have the upper hand in some way, and I hope they plan to exploit it as much as possible! Seeing as Paramount seem quite open to letting labels restore their titles in the US, hoping that means we will see some exciting things in the coming months. Let's hope Arrow are going to announce them for both territories going forward though, rather than do a Criterion and keep us guessing...

Since this seems to be a recent development, maybe they have.

Honestly, it seems that it would be easier for them to keep as many titles with the same licensees as possible, as it cuts down on legal shit (the stuff on the US releases have already been cleared by Paramount's legal department.)

Personally speaking, after the US and German studio titles, and the bits Imprint have brought to Region B, there are exactly (and only) four Region A exclusive Paramount-licenced titles I desire (Real Life and Mother from Criterion, Let's Dance from Kino and The Desperate Hours from Arrow US), and I don't currently feel closer to getting any of them. The ones that haven't come out anywhere yet (eg The Miracle Of Morgan's Creek and the 50s Capras) seem genuinely impossible in any form here under any circumstances. But we'll see! I said we'd never get Exorcist II in the UK and we did!

I just hope that Arrow itself can pull itself back together from its annus horribilis because all these studio deals will be academic otherwise. And I still am convinced it's a much worse situation behind the scenes than it looks.

Joking aside, we'll see whenever their next accounts are published on Companies House. There's nothing to indicate it's good.

Road House is absolutely legendary and is beyond essential.

Per James Flowers the Road House edition does include the documentary from the SF and VS release. It will be included on the first disc.

This is the most accurate statement any of us will read on the forum today.

Every single human being on the planet should own a copy of Road House.
