If only they had made a DVD "HD Remaster" box. I always think the same about the Dirty Pair movie (should have been done along with the HD prints for BVs OVAs) and VAP's TV/OVAs. Although, VAP did not do many "HD Remasters" on DVD, if any. Last edited by SMD88; 03-25-2025 at 03:46 PM. |

Not BD (sadly), but does anyone know if the Aniplex Rurouni Kenshin box was a new master? I cannot work it out. Anything of Kenshin I find online seems to be the shitty US DVDs. Much like You're Under Arrest. I am almost certain that the BV box set was a new component print but all I see is the ugly LD master dump DVDs.
I missed out on buying the Taiwan set many years ago, but I remember an Anime on DVD thread where they were being discussed. It was mentioned that the first disc (or possibly 2) was composhite and the rest used the component master. The box set is still not cheap, and I do not want to waste $350 on it if it is the same old LD masters. Too bad it is so "cheap and nasty" in the packaging department, too. Sigh, what happened to you Japan? |

I am curious about the Jp version of CYBER CITY OEDO 808. People on amazon are complaining about it being BD25, where as the US disc is about 28GB. Did they just use Discotek's BD and take out the English soundtracks, extras etc? I have the TOEI Goku BD, which I know is not as nice as the US. Why the hell TOEI did not use the same disc, I will never know. I did not open the Jp disc as I have the US one. I would like the Jp OEDO, but will not bother if it is a step down from the Discotek disc.

Dynit's Blu-ray of the original Space Battleship Yamato series is a repeat situation of 2199 where Voyager Entertainment (I guess) gave the international licensee a mutilated master with very blurry chroma (e.g. #13).

For the record, the BD credits the licensor to be TFC/Tohokushinsha, same as the JPBD
Additionally, the masters provided to Dynit do not have the changes made to the 2023 JPBD rerelease (chiefly, the newly discovered magnetic audio for episode 8) Last edited by CrashOveride95; 03-26-2025 at 08:13 PM. |

Just to put it out there, Voyager has went through a couple of name changes since 2199 to where the current 3199 series has them credited just as Voyager (ボイジャー).

Hello. New here. long time lurker though. Wondering if anyone here knows if the Crest of the Stars blu-ray boxset is worth the upgrade from the Bandai dvds?

The only good BD is the antique Sony BD. All subsequent releases or streams, even the JP BD, have severe colour issues. It looks as if they applied a YCC range conversion on the RGB channels. |

My Hero Academia: You're Next - USA BD vs JPN BD
Toho's first self-released anime Blu-ray in the US and possibly the last now that they own GKIDS. USA BD is region free. Subtitle options are English dubtitles, SDH, French and Spanish. The OVA is in Japanese with only English SDH subs, Pre-film theater manners is dubbed only with English texts. Code:

US BD has had some questionable chroma rounding/truncation.

Does anyone know if Anime Limited's release of God of High School is better video wise than the Viz release (like Tower of God and In/Spectre), or if it's just a clone of the Viz release?

Amazon shipped my copy of Legends of the Dark King on Monday (1 day early) which has never happened with me before
I guess the site reviewer did too https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Legen...380310/#Review The encode is indeed new. All episodes are 1080p/24fps AVC (previous release was 1080p/1080i VC-1) Both audio tracks are also lossless DTS-HD MA (prior release had lossy Japanese audio) Interestingly the clean opening & ending extras are 480i VC-1 Could be that there is no HD clean versions (Japan doesn't have its own BD IIRC) so the only clean OP & ED is the Japanese DVD copy and Sentai didn't want to upscale them |
