I find it annoying when I'm reading a book and I read "all right" when the author clearly meant "alright" — it's as if people forgot how to use English, and they're making it up as they go along.

Isn't the point of "Disney Movies Anywhere" that they are available Anywhere? Well despite there being a big "Watch" button on the website, you apparently can't watch from a browser.

Which normally isn't a problem, since I can just fire up iTunes on my computer and watch it there, but it would still be nice to watch from my web browser.

i need the hat on the right to fit like the hat on the left. any ideas on what i can put in the hat to make the same size hole as hat on the left? thinking of just buying another hat on the left and cutting it to fit inside the other hat. but think it will work?

-10C (4F) here today, -19C (2F) with the windchill.
I am hoping that the weather gets MUCH nicer by the time I head for home.

As a writer, I feel compelled to fret about this type of thing to make sure I'm doing it right.

I always heard that slamming it all together as "alright" was grammatically wrong or improper. Articles I see about the issue sound pretty mixed; the general rule is to avoid "alright," but it seems acceptable in some uses. I probably just use "alright" in dialogue and slang, but not so much in the actual narrative.

Since you mentioned it, I looked it up on Google. You're right about the mixed reviews. I found multiple sites arguing one way or the other, no one agreeing.

I found this on the site you posted that mentioned the contradiction pretty well:

Quote:
And the American Heritage Guide to Contemporary Usage and Style (7) seems to contradict itself. It states that “alright” as one word “has never been accepted as standard” but it then goes on to explain that “all right” as two words and “alright” as one word have two distinct meanings. It gives the example of the sentence “The figures are all right.” When you use “all right” as two words, the sentence means “the figures are all accurate.” When you write “The figures are alright,” with “alright” as one word, this source explains that the sentence means “the figures are satisfactory.” I’m not sure what to make of this contradiction.
The part in bold is how I was taught the difference. It seems odd that there is no one agreed upon approach, as the site does state there is a contradiction in guide books.

I think for right now, I'll just stick with "all right" as it seems to be the safer choice. Thanks!

Well, Steve Jobs would be pleased. His main argument for the iPad was no stylus. It’s something extra to carry and get lost, and who wants that?

No problem, I think the part you bolded from the article sums it up well.

Lately I have noticed that the UFC fighters are now dying from heart attacks.

Closely related to WWF/WWE Wrestlers now.

A couple wants to take me out for dinner, but they don't really have money. I mean, the husband makes more than I do, but they have kids plural, a mortgage and probably quite a large student loan still being paid off all these years later. Should I feel bad if I want to go to a semi-expensive place? Paying for just me would be nothing, but I'm also taking into account that their meals would also cost the same.
