Just got done reading this while at lunch (which ruined it, BTW), and was coming back to let folks know. This is BS, but from what I've read is essentially in line with how other MMORPG type games have worked in the past (don't know, as I've never played any before). The takeaway from this article that everyone needs to know is:

DON'T WASTE ANY MORE TIME UPGRADING ANY EXOTICS UNTIL AFTER THE DLC!!!

You'll just be wasting time, material and shards. Looks like Glimmer is going to be in short demand again, just like at the end of IB. Exclusion Zone, here I come...

I wonder for exotics you could get as a reward, will you now get the upgraded version, the old one, or a chance of both?

So if I redeem a chest exotic from Xur, would it be the regular voidfang vestament, the higher cap version, or a random chance of either...

Hopefully they raise the glimmer cap. An increase would make things a little easier while farming.

Has anyone heard any news about being abe to update legendaries as well? I would love to be able to bump the damage on my VOC. If they don't raise legendaries I think a lot of people are going to be finding new weapons because the damage of the current ones are not going to cut it.

After the DLC, I would assume all exotics, whether purchased or dropped, will be the new versions.

I'm also thinking it might be wise to buy what you can this weekend (if it's something you want and/or already have and will want to keep) and use those exotics to exchange next weekend instead of something you already have leveled-up. That way you can keep your good gear while leveling-up your new (better) gear.

Just a thought. I might buy several engrams, depending on what body part they are. I certainly have enough motes for it.

Let me stress that I SHOULD be 30 by tomorrow night. I've got my boots fully leveled, and 2.5 circles left on my helmet with 9 completed bounties to turn-in. I should also be able to knock-out another 10+ bounties tomorrow, and get the materials I need for the upgrades.

Sounds like "no" on legendaries, but I thought they indicated that raid stuff would still be relevant and useful.

I wonder if we'll see the raid drops get extra dots (but not as many as Crota Raid weapons), the exotics go through the process detailed above, and the rest of the legendaries become obsolete.

I guess it's possible all the legendaries become obsolete, but capping Fatebringer or the Vex seems like it would make all the raiding on hard feel a little pointless...

If I had to guess, we're going to see Vanguard armor buyable at rank 5 or 6 next Tuesday that gives 29 or 30 light as the max (allowing non-raiders to get to 30).

That sucks. Hopefully these are something given after completing x, y or z instead of having to rely on RNGesus. It is already bad enough that you have to randomly get selected to acquire gear. But then be randomly selected to get currency to upgrade the gear/weapons on top of that is going to be painful.

I have been collecting and upgrading all these exotics, and they are all about to become worthless unless I spend 100K worth of glimmer and 200 strange coins, then re-upgrade them all again. What kind of freaking idiot thinks that is a good idea?

Knowing a guy like you, that shouldn't be a problem, despite you being away from the game the past two days. I know by the time you get back, you're full of energy and dying to finally play so you can finally level up to 30 which you'll reach before me, even though we got the same raid pieces on Monday

I really wish this article would have come out a little sooner. I've been doing every bounty the past couple days that I can between two characters trying to level up a couple of my exotics. And I have the last 2 bubbles left on my Mythoclast.

I haven't read the entire article yet but it would be nice to get a little bit of a refund on your shards/energies.

i just spent the last week rigorously upgrading Plan C, SGA, Hawkmoon and Pocket Infinity. At least I have duplicates of Hawkmoon and Plan C I can trade. I had planned to work on upgrading my new P&T, but that's not going to happen now until I can trade it in for a new one...which will only be available when RNGesus allows Xur to carry sniper rifle upgrades!

Oh, you were serious?

It doesn't sound like you'll get anything different for a fully leveled versus a brand new exotic. For some that have sharded some exotics to upgrade others this week, the cost of a "new and improved" exotic just went up to 3 new shards plus your exotic plus glimmer plus a ton of XP, just for a new damage/light cap.

And just think, we get to do it all over again when the next DLC comes out!

So I have 3 exotic weapons I can trade, which I will only do AFTER the hard raid Friday.

Ok, so this has me annoyed.

Here’s how it works. Upgrading exotic weapons and armor is completed by interacting with the weekend vendor, Xur. When he arrives every Friday morning, he will now have a new option to upgrade one of your equipped exotic items. Each week, he’ll offer some (but not all) exotic items as being available to upgrade.

Ok, so you can only turn in ONE item.... maybe.....
