They had "HA" specifically on France. Plus, Criterion has a good relationship with IFC. It seems rather obvious.

I understand why people thought it was Frances Ha, but even at the time before To Be or Not To Be was announced, people were guessing it. And then it came out.

I am not good at picking the clues, so take it up with someone else.

Anyhoo, Weir is definitely under-represented on Blu. Either of the films that Criterion already owns the rights to, Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Last Wave, would be great to see on Blu, though personally I'd prefer the latter.

Other than that, the two I really, really, really want to see on Blu would be The Mosquito Coast and Fearless.

I forgot about The Mosquito Coast. I would do cartwheels across the room if Criterion were to announce that title.

I lived in Rome, Georgia for a short while when I was a teenager, and I recognize several of the landmarks shown during the early scenes of that film.

I actually ended up buying The Mosquito Coast on DVD earlier last year because I had a feeling this title would never find its way to Blu-ray. I wish there were more Peter Weir films on Blu-ray I have to admit. Fearless is also one amazing movie. Also, The Year of Living Dangerously is another film that would make for an interesting BD release.

I put both of mine in a padded envelope I got from an amazon order, went to the post office, and taped a label with the Criterion New York address information over the old amazon info on the envelope. If you want, you could put the discs into CD sleeves or something similar inside the padded envelope to prevent "rubbing" of surfaces, but it doesn't matter since they will keep the discs. Criterion sent the replacement discs in sleeves inside a padded envelope.

Well, the first chapter may test your stamina, but stick with it. By page thirty, I could not divorce myself from the book. The next chapter (Robert Frobisher one) was just so brilliantly written. Mitchell's prose is so elegant and lively. Throughout, I kept thinking "God, I am going to have to read this again". Each sentence is completely transportative.

Have you read any of his other works?

Nice! It's been the first time in a long while where I actually contemplated rereading a chapter just for the way it was written. With 400 pages to go, needless to say, I am really excited to learn where (or ratger, how) the book will go. I can really see why it has been integrated into the curriculum of several English classes--the structure is very inventive, but even more fascinating is that the style of writing in each of the stories has a radically different voice (which is something the film really didn't have for tonally, it was, more or less, all of a piece). I'll give you the full book report sometime next week

No real idea, but they have so many titles in the collection not yet on Blu Ray that I suspect we'll get at least one in the not-too-distant future.

I assumed that if Criterion wanted to hint TBoNTB, they'd have gone for either the obvious clever gag ("Pick one: __ 2B __ <> 2B"), or something ultra-specific for existing movie fans, with Nazi, Shakespeare and/or Jack Benny refs. (Hitler as a piece of cheese, for ex.)
More likely the former, which would have been as obvious as, say, France's "ha".

Well, the clue came out, people guessed tbontb and then it was announced.

I'd love them to announce Frances Ha, it just doesn't seem like that's what the hint was for.

Of course it is possible it was even for both.

All anyone is saying is Frances Ha isn't a given at this point.

Tokyo Story is number one on my Criterion Collection blu-ray upgrade wishlist as well.

Japan will release next year a 4 movie box set with new restored 4k scans. with eng subs and region a.

tokyo story is already released. no need for a criterion release here.
