I suppose it's to early to field this question then on the XMC-1?

"I guess no one really knows what quality the phono input would be in terms of a comparable dollar amount?"

Maybe someone would know the quality of other AVRs that have phono inputs at around the ~$1k price range? Anyone know from experience?

You connect the analog pre-outs (RCA) from your Denon receiver to the RCA inputs on the amplifier (select un-balanced if the amplifier as both RCA and XLR inputs). Then you connect your speaker to the 5 way binding posts for the corresponding channel on the amplifier.

Also to switch on the amplifier with the reciever, you need to connect a 3.5 mm mono jack (TRS) cable from the trigger out (12V) from the receiver to the trigger input on the amplifier.

If you're at all serious or somewhat interested in vinyl, then I would strongly suggest you get a dedicated phono amp/stage. My AVR isn't cheap (Yamaha HTR-6190b = RX-V1800) and the phono section sucks. You can get a decent phono amp/stage for around $150-$200. If you have a higher-end Turntable then I'd suggest upping the ante accordingly.

Correct, it's due to the class A/B design. I guess the difference is Emo actually measured and rated the power output under the varying conditions, something that I've never really seen on other manuf. spec sheets.

Ha... I got a chuckle out of that (yes, I have an 1800 so know exactly where you're coming from).

Default Just ordered XPA5

Well, I just ordered my very first dedicated amplifier. I should be receiving my Emotiva XPA-5 this week sometime. I have a 7.2 Klipsch Synergy III system ran by a yamaha htr 6090 receiver. Do you guys have any tips and/or tricks when i hook my amplifier up. I gonna connect 5 channels to the amp and let the extra two rear surround back channels be ran off the receiver. Any help would be much appreciated! I'm so stoked to hear the difference a dedicated amp will give me.

Good for you ! I would say you just need 5 RCA cables & Plug into A regular wall outlet & not A power conditioner !! THEN ENJOY THE CLEAN SOUND !!

Big Daddy !! Emotiva response ~ The UPA-7 is not made to be Bridged it Transfers it internally ! At this time the XBA-2 is the amp that can be Bridged .
They said that just using the 2 channels on the UPA-7 I am getting 170 watts per channel !!

Crazy,

Increasing the output from 125 watts (for 7 channels) to 170 watts (for 2 channels) for your UPA-7 is not really that much of an increase in watt output.

As an example, according to the Krell instructions for my Krell KAV-250a/3 the following is the situation:

1) 3 channels at 250 watts/channel into 8 ohms.
2) Bridging 2 channels yields 1000 watts into 8 ohms.
3) When Bridging 2 channels and also using the 3rd channel the Bridged channels of the amp will output slightly less than 1000 watts and the 3rd channel will output 250 watts into 8 ohms.

Still learning some about the world of amps .

Getting the 5-channel amp would allow you to expand to a 7.1 setup. If that's something you are contemplating down the road, I'd say get the 5-channel amp as opposed to the 3-channel amp.

I want to eventually bi-amp my fronts, but am wondering if I go the Emotiva route, should get the 5-channel or a 3 channel first. The surrounds I plan on getting do not support bi-amping, but the front three speakers do.

I do not have room (or the WAF support) for a 7.x setup.
