You never know what could happen. The best news is that Ridley Scott is involved.

A prequel could be badass. Lets hope its done right. AVP also had alot of promise.

the thingis , the film Alien left so many unanswerd questions...like how did the company know the ailiens where on the planet? how did the aliens get there? And what was the deal with that space jockey? if any movie was set up for a prequel it was Alien.

Sus, here's a tidbit for you. This may not be all bad folks. Sounds Like Fox isn't going to have creative control:

Quote:
So at today’s junket for Tony Scott’s new film “The Taking of Pelham 123″, I went up Tony after the press conference ended to ask him what was up with the remake.

The big news is he confirmed Carl Rinsch would be directing it and that it’s a prequel to his brother Ridley’s classic!

What Tony told me is after the jump:

Collider: 20th Century Fox is talking about remaking or redoing the original Alien. What’s going on with that?

Tony Scott: Yes, Carl Rinsch is going to do the prequel to Alien. He’s one of our directors at our company.

Collider: I’m going to be blunt about this. Fox has not been doing a great job recently with their movies. They haven’t been an artist friendly studio. Are you guys going to have some creative control and make this a kick-ass film?

Tony: Yes! But Fox is our home. They finace our production company.

Collider: And I’m very happy that you guys have the financing. But a lot of the films they’ve been doing at the studio level, they’ve been nickel and diming and not giving fandom what they want. So I guess my question for you is…are you a little nervous about reengaging the franchise or are you excited.

Tony: I’m excited cause Ridley created the original and Carl Rinsch is one of the family.

Collider: When do you envision this film getting in front of cameras?

Tony: Hopefully the end of the year.

Collider: Will it be a summer of 2011 movie?

Tony: Honestly, I don’t know
.

While I wish I could give you more info, I only had moments to talk with him. Look for more “Alien” info as I get it.

Greenscar, that's not great news. He basically said Fox finances there company. Therefor, if Fox wants a cheap, crappy movie for a summer release, that takes a dump from a great height on fans, RS and TS and this director chap, can do very little about it.

But I will wait for more news, maybe it will get better.

This is the good news:

Tony and Ridley are the two that seem to be able to get good movies out of FOX. But your right. We'll have to wait for more info

I am hoping and praying for a good one. Love this series of films. Even the weakest is by far, better than most new films out today.

I have a very large Alien related collection of movie posters, both signed and unsigned, 3 Giger signed lithographs and I even have the original working Kenner "Alien" released in 1979. My personal hope is that FOX not revisit and remake the original "Alien" movie but perhaps do what Ridley Scott said in one interview in the "Book of Aliens," which I own. "[D]irector Ridley Scott expresses the opinion that a film exploring the backstory of the Space Jockey would be an interesting direction for the series to take." Personally, I hope they follow these thoughts rather than remaking a film which I consider to be a CLASSIC!

Well I hope they do a reboot, cast a bunch of rap stars (along with a kickin hip hop soundtrack), rate it PG so the kiddies can see it, and of course tie it in to a huge promotion at Burger King. Ka Ching!

If they want to 're-make' anything, re-make Alien 3 and use the original Dark Horse Aliens comic storyline where Hicks and Newt are still alive. That was a much better story.

Do not re-make Alien - a prequel is fine though. Look what it did for Star Trek...

I'd love to see them do the long hinted story of taking a group of marines to the Alien home planet. Now THAT I would pay to see.

You will have to read the book or TPB to see that.

thanks for the post, Greenscar. I can only hope having both Scotts involved means Fox won't try to do too much without their approval....one can only hope tho

Just because Ridley Scott is involved, it doesn't mean you're going to expect the same atmosphere from Alien. It's gonna be fast paced, quick editing, and probably predictable as hell. This is the modern American Movie criteria. No wonder why people these days can't appreciate "2001: A Space Odyssey".

IMO Tony and Ridley Scott are the reason why Michael Bay type films exist.

Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide, Thelma and Louise, The Last Boy Scout, The Fan, Man on Fire, they all have the same look and formula.

This won't be an Alien/Bladerunner type flick, I promise you that.
