Default Did anybody buy warranty for thier LCD? Your thoughts please.

I am curious to know did any of you buy the extended warranty and if you think it is worth it? Also how many of you actually use your warranty if you have it? Please list your LCD/Plasma and also if you have any stories please tell.

My Toshiba kicked the bucket just over a year old. I did get a 3-yr warranty which I'm thankful for.
I think a warranty is worth it as long as the price is right. 10% of the purchase price Is my max. Anything more i buy TV and warranty from somewhere else.

I payed $120.00 for a 4 year Plan from Vizio, the exact same coverage was $240.00 at circuit city....CC kept sending me letters trying to convince me to get the coverage....I have yet to have a problem and still have 2 yrs of coverage left with the vizio plan....It has been a great TV....

The best warranty is one you never have to use.
I opted for the 4 year wartranty - hopefully it will end up pissed-away cash.

If a problem occurs, it is kind of nice to have some sort of coverage.
Peace of mind if you will.

Not worth it on today's good quality FP displays. For RPTV (if it covers the bulb) then yes.

i bought it on my 32" samsung....my sister and brother in law got it on their 50" and the picture went out but it still had sound.

they had the warranty and it was fixed for free.

one of my component jacks isn't working in color so i'll be calling best buy and get it fixed for $0.

i bought one for my Sony, for about $400.00 and about 2 years into the life of the tv I had the Optical block replaced (the engine as it were), that would have cost $1200 out of warrenty (not really, sony had an inherent problem with the optical blocks and due to a class action suit, would have paid for it's replacement, assuming you knew about the class action suit!) then about 1 year later my lamp blew and under my warrenty, included was one lamp change and they did that Friday last week. so as of Friday last week, it's like I got a brand new TV! I think, for me, once I spend more than a $1k for electonics especially HDTV, if offered, I think it's worth the cost of an extended, in home warrenty. If i had to pay for both of those things it would have cost me $1600 bucks of course I could have bought a new tv for that money, but as it turns out, this tv still has lots of life in it. the more the money, the newer the tech (if you got it as soon as it was released) then yes, I recommend the extended warrenty because you never know!

I,d did not because after the manufactures warrenty expires ( Sony),
I can buy it then from the Sony rewards site, or a third-party site.

And because I am an adult with no one else around to touch my stuff,
I,m very careful and clean with things I had to sweat for.

LG Scarlett 42". Extended warranty is how most shops make a nice profit. With today's TV's, they should not go wrong within a few years, that is not saying that a percentage do. I said no to my extended warranty, but the wife insisted on it as I was going to mount it on the wall (We have a mud brick house). She also insisted on buying 8 10 inch bolts. A little overboard but it is nice to know that if the big one drops then my TV will be the only thing left of the house standing.

I got the extended warranty on mine only because the store gives you store credit for the price of the warranty if there are no problems during the warranty period. For Canadians - I know The Brick and Visions offer this. If they didn't, I probably wouldn't have got it.

And just in case some of you don't know some credit card company's automatically extend the manufacturers warranty by one year if purchased with that card. My Mastercards terms are: any accident even If I damaged it like dropping it in the parking lot, or throwing a Wii remote at it - within the first 90 days it is covered my my CC company. So check with your CC company I think most terms are the same at least they are for both major cards that I own.

I think when I bought my tv at Circuit City in 2007, my 46" Sharp was $1200 and the warranty was close to $400 so I declinded.
