Doesn't mean that at all. Alliance Canada gets the Canadian rights to a good mix of films (and then screw most them up when they release them on BD). The US rights to Equilibrium are held by Buena Vista/Disney, and the way they trickle out blu-ray releases, it good be quite awhile before a U.S. release.

I have the Polish release; it's also cropped to 1.78 as is the UK release, but at least it has English PCM 5.1 and it was fairly inexpensive, around $20.

I've had two versions of Equilibrium on Blu already. The first one was the UK Import (via Momentum) which was so-so, especially because of the DD 5.1 sound and the not so great PQ. And now I have the Polish Import version (via Pro-Motion), and I'm quite satisfied with that version. Both the AQ and PQ are excellent. The only thing that bugs me about it is that its aspect ratio is not 2.35:1 but rather 1.78:1. So, I may be getting another version of this in the future. But, I will not pay $50+ to import the Japanese version. That's a bit much for me.

I got the UK edition, thought it was fine for a cheap blu-ray. aspect ratio didnt bother me, actually looked framed better.

Well after reading all of the reviews and posts on this site, I finally bought my first import: Equilibrium. Purchased it from amazon.co.jp today. Can't wait to see this in all it's glory. How long does it usually take to ship these to the States?

The Japanese release of this film is amazing. Correct aspect ratio, great picture quality, and lossless audio. I had the UK version first, and the incorrect framing really bothered me. The Japanese release outclasses it in all departments.

i have the UK import of Equilibrium and quite a few users commend it to be very highly rated for pq, yet when i watched it i noticed lots of scratches and spots in the print that didint seem to be too well cleaned up by the bluray transfer. anybody else see this or am i just imagining things here?

no no i know what grain is... its not that at all... its actual imperfections in the picture in certain scenes. i found it more prevalent in the scene where he barges into the library looking for the resistance (asking questions about his former cleric partner) there are black specs and lines that show up in the picture from time to time.
