(And since it's now a Disney movie, we're lucky they told us THAT much in the first teaser.) Also, does it help that I was morbidly curious to take a look at the official Asylum knockbuster version that came out earlier, back when they were trying to dodge with public-domain classics?: ![]() ![]() (No, really, they thought they were ripping off Avatar!) In the meantime, Disney has provided some helpful explanation ahead of time of Burroughs' Mars-verse: [Show spoiler]

Hmmm, not at all what I was expecting. It didn't get me the least bit excited for this. I am a Kitsch fan ever since FNL but he just seems as miscast to me here as Glyenhall did for Persia, and they both look dressed quite similar. Plus his co-star here is Lynn Collins who he was also in Wolverine in, and that movie left a bad enough taste in my mouth without the reminder of seeing the two of them together. I think I am definitely going to temper my expectations and just wait for a much better trailer cause that really did nothing for me.

![]() There is gravity otherwise they wouldn't be on the ground, maybe it's much lesser than Earth's gravity and more than the moon's.....somewhere in the between. Last edited by PS3-Playb3yond; 07-15-2011 at 12:55 AM. |

I was thinking the same thing too, however you have to remember that this is a teaser trailer and by the time the film comes out, Mars could end up looking similar to the ones from 'Mission to Mars' and 'Red Planet' with a little bit CGI and some lot of color grading applied to it. And speaking of color grading, if any of the film makers involved in this one happen to be reading this thread, pleeeeease click on my sig below. . |

I had kind of the same reaction that I did to the new Sherlock Holmes trailer. It just doesn't make me want to drive to the theater. I'm hoping future trailers for it will be better, because I do like the material and the actors. But it didn't have a "wow factor".
However, it did make me wish we could get a "J'onn J'onzz of Mars" movie. |

SPOILER ALERT FOR JOHN JUMPING IN THE AIR:
Slashfilm specified that there is a scene where you see John Carter learning how to move (especially walk) on Mars, because of the obvious gravity difference, hence why he can do super jumps. By the way, do watch the trailer with the sound, Peter Gabriel's cover of Arcade Fire's "My Body is a cage" is fantastic and makes it somehow special I think. |

You guys do realize that this story is nearly 100 years old right?
Not too much was know about Mars at the time and Edgar Rice Burroughs based Barsoom (Mars) on the idea that it was a dying world that was at one time similar to Earth. ERB thought up some fantastic ideas for Martian technology including an early form of GPS, flying ships, brain transplants and terra-forming factories. The reason that most people aren't impressed seems to be that a lot of other movies have already borrowed from these Mars stories. |
