So far this series makes me hope every character gets killed since all of them makes me want to blow up their ship.

Here's what I don't get...SG-1 is by far the most popular of the franchise. why not just do like a next generation style show like star trek did. same type of show same setting and a new cast. Honestly I wish they had kept SG-1 going I loved every one of those characters and I thought the Ori story line was pretty interesting. I'm giving SGU till the end of the season and if it hasn't improved I'm not watching it next year and i've been a stargate nut since the very first episode aired on showtime. Eli is the only thing I like bout the new show. The Reality show interviews, the meaningless sex all over the place, the lack of action or bad guys all need to stop.

They did.... it was called Atlantis. Now i enjoyed Atlantis, i don't understand why it got cancelled, but if i had a choice of continuing on with the same old same old or trying something new with the mythos the stargate universe provides, i vote for something new. SGU whether you like it or not is just that, new. Had they tried to get the green light for stargate:ds9 it would have never happened, and we would have been left with no new gate at all, which sadly it seems most fans would have preferred.

I grew really tired and bored with star trek by the time voyager came out, and frankly was not really concerned if they ever made a new trek, but enterprise, although those geeky diehards hated it as well, breathed some life back into the series imo. Re-sparked my interest in a series i thought was long gone. Same with stargate, after 10 seasons of sg-1 and like what 5-6 of atlantis which was all the same thing over and over again. It became the type of show where it's like "ehh i'll catch it when it comes out on dvd". Hell i know most atlantis shows i would watch and could peg each one down to its matching counterpoint episode in SG1, what kind of good tv is that?

Great post. I am with you as part of the minority of people who enjoyed Enterprise; it had a nice gritty feel to it and brought a new dynamic to the franchise. I personally could have done with a couple of more seasons of Atlantis, but am enjoying SGU for what it is, rather than offer comparisons and criticism to the previous SG offerings. Like the show or not, if you're an SG fan, support the series to prosper the franchise.

That is good. It started slow but I became more and more interested in the show. I figured it got cancel because it did not seem very popular. Glad it's coming back

It's already out.

When it shows the spaceship it's beautiful. Overall the image is pleasing and it's wonderfully shot.

well i know i raised a big fuss about this and yeah the price is not worth it but i got a new copy for under $20 shipped so not bad about $2 and ep.
the only reason i watch sgu its a scifi show and i dont think of it as a STARGATE show and it never will be.

long live stargate sg1 and atlantis
i was hoping for another sg1 and 1 atlantis movie but the truth is we may never see one because of mgm being in financial trouble

These half-season releases are a scam for the most part. Financing has gotten so sketchy in Hollywood, they are using profits from these sales to continue producing the show.

The show comes back on the air soon, to finish off the first season.

I have everything gate thats come out on disk, except this. I watched the first ten, and if I forget watching BSG, and Voyager, I can enjoy it. The last straw is this half season release. With all the other simularities with BSG to then do this too... sorry but I'd just feel stupid falling for it. FYI I painted the stargate command symbol on the door leading to my theater, I am a gate fan but the lack of originality saddens me. Just my opinion.

dont care about their stupid budgets. my target for TV on BD is $1/43min (avg) episode unless when it's HBO or Lost, that becomes around $2/ep.

The whole first season is already in the can, and season 2 starts shooting next week.

Stargate SG-1 would pay for the entire season with the money from the DVD sales.

It's simply that MGM needs money, and they felt that since Ron Moore fans were willing to pick up half season boxes at $50 SRP a pop, they might as well try it here and get double the money for it. You don't have a problem financing a show that's been ordered by a network. They write a check and you deliver an episode

Big Sci-fi and Stargate fan here and I'd love to get this series on blu-ray. However, I agree with most that half seasons is a bit over the top, so I'll wait until they release a full season box set.

the 'season sets' will simply be THIS release w/1.5. just FYI. they're not going to create a 3rd SKU just to pak all 20 episodes together.

er... what would give you the impression they'll get rid of and DUMP this 1.0 SKU just for another SKU? they never did for BSG.

even the "complete" series blu-ray of BSG is planned around the 2.0, 2.5. 4.0, 4.5 setup.

For all of you interested, the Complete First Season set is going for just $27.99 on Amazon right now. That's 53% off retail price, and less than half than the ridiculously overpriced 1.0 set.

Although I like the show myself, I was not planning to get it, but at this price it's a steal I couldn't pass up.
