OMFG, you actually watched a thinking man's movie?!

Seriously though, I had the exact same sentiments when I first watched it; it was slow and I wasn't sure if I understood it properly. But afterwards, I just couldn't stop thinking about the stories.

Here's my interpretation; sorry if somebody else mentioned all this, but I haven't read through everybody else's yet. I'm also sorry if any of it is a mis-interpretation (I've only seen the movie once! ).

I think the thing that helped me understand it the most was that, even though three separate storylines are presented, only one is considered "real," and that would be the story of the doctor trying to save his wife. The stuff in the past with the conquistadors was something from a book they were writing (or possibly a past-life experience, I don't remember now). The stuff in the future is more of a spiritual representation, born from the Spanish guy who
[Show spoiler] was consumed by the Tree of Life's sap
and managed to achieve some form of enlightenment by the end of the film. Therefore, I see it as three different levels of the character; one real, one fictional, and one ethereal.

Just the fact that you didnt turn it off proves that Aronofsky succeeded.

Even though you didnt understand it, you were affected.

I didnt understand it the first time I saw it, but I didnt care at all. I felt like I had experienced something special....what that was, I wasnt sure. It was just a beautifull, aching, mesmerizing magnet that sucked me in. Wait a while....and watch it again. You will trip out on your second viewing.

Hugh Jackman = RANGE!!!

Yea man I had to stick with it! I know this movie was being talked about! But u are absolutely right about the first time viewing and the feeling it left u and the confusion! lol Hopefully next time around it is a lot understandable! Got Em!!

I personally think Jackman and Weisz are much better suited for the material, even though Pitt and Blanchett are great, because those two are far better at conveying emotion imo.

Btw, the original plan was for a huge Mayan battle.

Yea I do wonder how it wouldve turned out! Oh well there are a lot of what if's in films! Got Em!!

Definitely, it means different things to different people. I love those ppl who used to say it was a very simple movie, yet their analyses were completely and utterly wrong (note: none of the posted analyses on this thread are what I'm referring to---the ppl I'm referring to would say, "Duh! Look at the trailer! It's the same person over three different time periods!" To which I )

Is it the size? Most e-mail clients only accept stuff in the 10MB range, unless they've improved lately. I've got it at my computer at home too, but I can't remember the filesize.

I honestly am not sure. The size may very well be an issue (okay, cheap laugh!), but I've also had trouble locating it. I played it on itunes today but wasn't able to find it in my files.

I've enjoyed reading everyones thoughts on the movie. My interpretation is much like Q's original interpretation which is
[Show spoiler] that the Spanish inquisition portion relates to what his wife had written which we know because these portions are shown when he is reading her book, present day portions reality, and future portion his finishing her story. If I remember correctly on her death bed he promises her he will finish the story. In the future portion of the story she often visits him and he gets angry and often ask her why she won't leave him alone. I believe this was him struggling with finishing the book and keeping his promise. Like many others who have commented on the movie it has been awhile since I watched it so if I seem way off please forgive me. Even if I didn't completely understand the movie I loved the way it had me thinking about it days after I had seen it. I would also agree with others who have stated that Jackman did an awesome job in this movie. I believed every emotion he displayed in the movie. Great movie and after reading opinions in this thread I hope to watch it again real soon.

I just checked mine and it's 64 MB. That's a nice size, and as far as I know, Gmail's 20 MB is the highest for e-mail attachments. That's probably why you can't send it.

I liked it a lot more than Ebert did and will see it again soon to try to catch some of what I missed this time around. Jackman was great and Weisz was incredible, just wish she had been in it more.

I'm happy you liked it.

I have a philosophy of religion of class and we had to do a short paper so I did it on this. It's becoming one of my favorites really fast.

I've kept hearing about this film, so I was almost set to add it to my Netflix queue this week when I noticed it was only a mere ten dollars on Amazon (as surfdude12 also mentioned). It appears to be exactly the sort of film I enjoy, so I went ahead and made the blind buy!
