The product page on B&N's website doesn't have a store availability checker, so I guess they won't be carrying this in-store either. Damnit!! Where the hell do I find this movie!!

It can take a day sometimes on certain items to show up to be able to check store stock for Barnes & Noble call you local store. Last week it took half the day for one of the versions of Paris Texas to show up on their site to check store stock.

believe me many stores got it I got my email last nite that the copy I reserved at Barnes did come in for me to pick up starting today. Barnes' system is not like Best Buys on stock checks. Never be afraid to call the store.

I sent them one yesterday...they just responded that the title still hasn't been released and sorry for the inconvenience. Whatever.

Also it's $25 at B&N so don't buy it there unless you have a membership (ended up being 18 and change after my membership discount and coupon).

I found ONE copy today in HMV (Canada). I picked it up, but the back of the package lists it as an MPEG-2, 25 GB single layer disc. It also has a second disc that is a DVD. i haven't opened it yet, just in case this is the the old version that was cancelled/recalled last year. The packaging also lists a 2009 copyright. very strange. oh, and it was cheap too. $15 canadian.

That's bull. Clearly the title is released - people are finding it in stores, and all other online retailers show the release date as 2/2/2010. And Amazon themselves are even shipping it to some people! I mean, I understand mistakes happen and title updates fall through the crack - but now that customers are emailing you about it, actually look into it and fix it!

I thought that was strange too. I looked at the back of the case in FYE, and it said MPEG-2/25 GB. A misprint?

oh man, I hope that's not the case with the new release-- what was it delayed so long for if it's just gonna be a subpar disc

It was missing from my Best Buy, along with almost every other new release today. They only have Zombieland and Gangs of New York remastered.

They just didn't update their cover art from when they first had it ready to go. DVDBeaver's review and a few people who already got their hands on it have confirmed it's a 50 GB disc with an AVC encode, and it is gorgeous.

that's good to know but it leaves me with one question--

how will I know if I have the new version? Is it possible that the older release is in some stores or Amazon?

I don't think the "old version" was ever shipped, or even necessarily manufactured. In fact the only reason we know a 25 GB MPEG2 encode exists is because the Japanese BD featured it. I wouldn't worry about it.

Received a response from Amazon about my pre-order:

Quote:
Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the delay in shipping the order #XXXXX

Looking into your order, I see that To Live and Die in L.A. [Blu-ray] is back-ordered. I'm sorry about this delay--we certainly didn't expect that this would happen.

The availability and shipping times listed on our website are estimates, not guarantees. Unfortunately, unexpected fluctuations in our inventory occasionally happen, and that can add time to our original availability estimate. I know it's frustrating when that happens, and I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.

I want to make sure your order gets to you faster once we have stock. Although the shipping method is faster, it'll still take some time to get the DVD. As soon as we receive more stock, we'll ship your order and send you an e-mail to let you know.
I'm not sure what she was talking about when she mentions making sure I get my order faster once it's in stock. I already have Prime, so maybe they're gonna bump it to overnight shipping?

It definitely shipped. I saw it on the release date in Best Buy. I considered picking it up, but figured I'd wait. I then heard about the recall/cancel and went back to snag it the next day. All copies were gone. So it did make it out to a few stores very briefly, when it was initially supposed to come out. I just hope the one I bought today isn't from that batch. Maybe they just kept the same packaging. Anyone ever find out WHY they recalled/cancelled the first batch before?
