I didn't think your opinion was lame and I hope I didn't come across as condescending. Don't get me wrong, I agree that it would be great if Scanovo could suggest and enforce to clients to achieve a different artwork reprint. I was merely stating what likely is happening and there would be quite a few obstacles to overcome in order to get different cover releases. My collection includes a few rare ones that I would love retain value. I was fortunate that I only overpaid on one steelbook, and that was a second copy of Clone Wars. I spent almost $100 and ended up only selling it for $70, that was my lesson learned on spending too much on a steelbook. I've never paid a premium for anything in my collection since then. I collect these not exclusively for value, but because I do like them and it's a hobby, albeit a somewhat expensive one that more than likely won't increase in value for most releases. As long as Blu-ray is the core format for high definition, I'm confident I can get back at the miminum 50% of what I spent and I'm OK with that.

I used to collect die-cast several, several, SEVERAL years ago, and I know all too well about paying out the nose for limited, exclusive merchandise in mint, sealed condition. I've paid as much as a 1000% mark-up on things (yeah, 1000%), only to see it's value decline for various reasons. The one thing I always liked about Mattel and the Hot Wheels brand, they never re-released a die-cast vehicle with the EXACT SAME paint scheme without making some very clear markings or changes to it somewhere. They would often release limited stuff that was numbered, and since the early 90's, they have been steadily targeting the adult collectible market with higher priced merchandise. Something similar to a re-print they did is when they did some of the original castings from the '60's and 70's with the original type of paint, but when they did it, the base of the car would be clearly marked as a new release (It's been awhile, but I believe they labeled them Vintage or something like that). The originals from the '60's and '70's command some serious money for mint, sealed condition, and Mattel was smart enough not to trample all over 'em by simply releasing them in the exact same way, with no clear differentiation. Granted, Mattel and Scanavo have two very different business models and products, but the premise in terms of limited issues, exclusives, and such are the same (I think). It was my experiences in collecting die-cast that has kept me from ever paying more than $50 for a SteelBook, and that is if it is one from overseas. I consider this SteelBook addiction I have somewhat of an expensive hobby and not much of an investment, and I'd be perfectly content to get back as little as 10-15% of what I have in my collection. I don't think I'll ever sell them, but if circumstances changed and required me to do so, then I would just hope that the market for them is still in high gear so I would get back closer to 50% or more of what I paid. If not, then I would be okay with it 'cos I don't think about their future value as much when I'm buying them. Hell, I have close to 1000 dvd's, and if I'm lucky, I'd get back 5% of what I have in them. As long as I can always enjoy the movies in the SteelBooks as well as the SteelBooks themselves, then I'm okay with the fact that I've paid a small premium to obtain them over getting the standard amaray release. Anyone had trouble combining amazon.de orders lately? I tried to get customer service to do it, but they said they are unable due to a "technical limitation".
Neither of my orders have items that are released yet (Sherlock Holmes + Zombieland). Customer Service told me that when I get one order in the mail, that they will refund the shipping cost of one of them. ![]() ![]() |
