Check out notebookreview.com for that model- they're like the AVS of the laptop world.
Just surf the net and watch BD movies on the notebook or HDTV via HDMI. I have my powerful desktop, Xbox 360 and PS3 to play games.

Should be good then. I like a lot of the Toshibas.

bug- all of my posts have been about the G73, lol. Helping others, figuring out how to get a damn hard drive caddy so I can put another 500gb HD in, etc.

No, the X1 variant comes with one 500gb drive and sold at $1450. They were already out of the A2's by then or I would've just grabbed it. I just need a caddy as it didn't come with one (grrrrrrr). I'm thinking one of the existing Asus ones will work- I've got my eye on a couple.

I finally bought the Toshiba notebook today but a different model which was on sale at Compusa for $799.99. It is a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6014 with the blu-ray drive, 500GB HDD and unlike the S-6012 model this one has the Intel i5 CPU instead of i3. I also had a $10.00 off coupon and by using my bankcard I get cashback so I think I got a good deal.

Looks like a pretty good deal- 4gb RAM, 720 capable screen, BD player and the i5. The i series are seriously impressive. Think you'll enjoy it!

hows the g73 working out for you? it can play/game with anything you throw at it right? howd you compare the graphics to a ps3 and xbox360?
what about its performance as an htpc? bd-rom issues? what bd software you using?

Mine's working great so far. A few folks on NBR have had issues here and there with the keyboard, bad GPU and such but so far not me. Been playing Crysis (native res, no AA, all settings HIGH) and it runs great. Also played some STALKER and of course it runs phenomenal. Haven't really used it as an HTPC though I'll give it a run at some point. Some people express concerns with the cooling since it seems to pull in air from the keyboard (in terms of leaving it shut in an HTPC mode). Dunno the truth on that. Using PowerDVD9 and tried Total Media 3 and both run great. Watched only a few movies on it so far.

Battery life when everything is turned to battery savings will net about an hour and 45 minutes. Otherwise... it's really gone fast. Wouldn't dream of trying to game or watch a BD on battery- just too little juice for the beast.

Finish on it seems great still to me, though time will tell. Taken it on one trip so far and have another next week and the week following again. Little heavy on those long airport treks (was in Detroit and ended up having to stop and put the backpack straps on both shoulders) but definitely worth it.

Oh- got stopped in MKE and had the laptop tested for bombs because "that battery is just too small for a laptop that big". I laughed and told them I agree. Few minutes later and I was on my way, but it was funny.

1.45 hrs on that beast is more than decent.
id say you can run anything on it as long as you dont do AA too much. wanted a comparison between it and the ps3 but i dont know if you would have identical games on both.
essentially your gaming at 1080p with that laptop and an upscaled 720p on a 360 and ps3, but console games are usually more optimized for obvious reasons.

also wanted to see if you could get trueHD with that beast on your ht system and how the color compared to your stand alone bd player.

that thing about getting stopped- thats too funny man.

gled your having a blast with your new toy...

I could maybe download a demo or something. Just finished Dragon's Age on the 360 awhile back- I know that both the PS3 and PC (by a good margin) had better visuals. It's been awhile since I've done any PC gaming and it's easy to see the allure when you're able to- the graphics are sharper than the consoles. Very few of the console games are doing anything but 720, which is honestly kind of a low res. 360's AA makes up for it, and the PS3 has more horsepower so it sometimes has better textures.

I need to get another HDMI cable first- I usually keep a spare around from Monoprice but I think I gave it to a friend.
