I was also happy the tone was more in tune with the first movie of the series. I know many people consider Aliens a masterpiece, and perhaps it is in terms of the action genre. As a sequel to Alien I felt it failed, and I much prefer number three to it.

[Show spoiler] Yeah, but Hicks was one of the best characters in the franchise, and they didn't even OFFER to have him back.

Also, I read one of the scripts to Alien 3 and it was incredible! Not the prison planet one, but one of the other versions. I dont know why they didnt go with it though.

Fair enough. Although, considering the story they went with, I think it worked better to
[Show spoiler]not have Hicks there, as he would've acted as too much of a protector for Ripley amongst all the men. Having had Hicks there could've lowered the stakes too much.

Voted for the Alien flicks because I've always made sure to watch all 4 whenever I break out the quadrilogy set. The first three are just one continuous story; the only thing that happened inbetween them was Ripley sleeping soundly. The special edition for the third is so much better than the theatrical cut & the fourth is fun just for some more alien mayhem. I even manage to enjoy the AVP flicks just for even more alien action with Predators thrown in for some added spice. There isn't really anything sacred about these movies where one somehow ruins the bunch. I'll take as many movies with these guys as I can get! I mean, the design of these things is awesome! Although, it's the first movie that has the best design: where you can see the skull under the shell. Ya never really see it in the movie because it's too dark, but after seeing the head of the costume in a very well lit room, I fell in love. In fact, I have a whole shelf in The Den dedicated to the movies! (Well, the first, second and AVP anyway.)

Yup. The additional scenes have audio problems, but bring much to the movie.

You watch T3 and comment on Claire Danes? How about Kristanna Loken as the Terminator. She is one of the Hottest Girls on the Planet! Didn't you notice her perfect ass and the scenes with her in spandex? WHOA! I didn't give Claire a second look.

I Know I will be in the minority by saying this but I thought T3 was an EXCELLENT movie. It looks and sounds awesome on Blu-ray.

Even though T1 is a classic movie I enjoyed T2 and T3 more.

I back you up on T3 being a much more enjoyable movie than T4-and better. But I think that the first two had more atmosphere.Wonder how Cameron would make T3.....

Both series have 2 great films, the first two in each series. But, I enjoy the Alien series more. Probably because it is set in space and while the Alien series has taken some strange left turns, the Terminator franchise's time travel logic becomes even crazier in my mind.

I give the nod to Terminator mostly because "Alien 3" was so awful. The director's cut wasn't much of an improvement IMHO. T3 wasn't up to par with its predecessors, either, but it was still a solid entry. Just watched "Salvation" this week and found it to be quite enjoyable as well. Plus the excellent short-lived TV series gives Terminator added prestige in my mind.

Here's how I see it.
Alien- Classic but the sequel is better.
Aliens- Liked it better than the first. Amazing.
Alien 3- Enjoyable. Not even close to the first 2 though. The Directors cut makes it a hell alot better though.
Alien Resurrection- Horrible

Terminator- Classic but the sequel is better.
Terminator 2- Better than the first. Amazing
Terminator 3- Enjoyable. Not even close to the first 2 though.
Terminator 4- Really good. Underrated.

So since they are similar until the 4th movie i have to pick the Terminator series since i liked the 4th one.

"Terminator" is my fifth favorite movie franchise, so it takes the cake.

If I had to break it down, it would be like this:

Alien: 4.5/5
Aliens: 4.5/5
Alien 3: 3/5
Alien Ressurection: 3.5/5 (what can I say, I did enjoy it!)

Terminator: 4/5, if not higher
Terminator 2: Judgement Day: 5/5
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines: 4/5 (yep, I liked it anyway)
Terminator: Salvation: 3.5/5, if not higher

And there's more "Terminator" and "Alien" to come!

Well, this is an unfair fight since they both involve James Cameron and Ridley Scott at a most fundamental level. Does anyone disagree with my assertion? I call it a tie...

Thumbs up

Not going to vote. It's split down the middle 2-2.

Alien
Aliens
The Terminator
T2: Judgment Day

All the other sequels were unnecessary.

Hey, you're certainly entitled to your opinion about it! I just personally don't agree. Could be because I really liked Aliens and its ending, and felt cheated by the opening of the third. You're right though--the third has a similar tone to the first. However, it also shows much more violence, which is not in tune with the first. The second had a similar tone in the feeling of hopelessness that was so prevalent in the first, but of course it was more action driven and less focused on the sense of discovery that the first was.

Sorry, I am glad you like Loken but she was never that hot for me.
