Then comes the next issue: This Thursday i go for a vacation for about 2 weeks. So i won't be able to play with my sub for about 2 to 3 weeks.....

Well....You can always opt to delay your vacation so you can play with the sub

Sorry for not posting any pictures of my sub500 yet. This is due a surgery. I got a new hip and been trying to get back on my feet first.

But i can say boy does that sub sound sweet! I love every second with it!

Now i will try and save up money for my next purchase.

Why not get the 110s as back surrounds and the 360s as fronts or the 220s as fronts????

I think it will be a close call between the 360 or the C1. But i must hear them first.

The back surrounds aren't super important IMO, I use the smallest bookshelf from energys line and it does very well from what it is asked to do.

from what i know, you may find the contours too linear when compared to the others..... Good luck... I wish I was in your position right now..... Lucky Dog.

Hi there - Im very close to joining the Dynaudio club....

After spending a long time listening to a lot of speakers ( focal / B+W / Dali's etc etc ). Finally hearing some Dynaudio Focus 220's is what blew me away - not only that but the dealership had an ex demo pair going for 2.5k... put a deposit down and am thoroughly excited to go pick them up and get them sorted at home...

My problem is I am unsure on how to power them - I have a 46" bravia XBR led tv and a ps3 - So have been looking at receivers that are currently on the market or coming soon - obviously I should have a separate amp ideally to give them more power - but I just don't have the $$$ for that right now - so have been looking at:

Marantz / Cambridge Audio and Onkyo....

I am really unsure what will give my Dyn's the best power though - I will just be running a 2.0 setup for now - but really want them to be decent for DTS HD master tracks and my collection on uncompressed music !!

Leaning towards the Cambridge Audio 650r receiver or the new Marantz 6005 that is coming out soon...

any thoughts or help in regards to choosing a decent reciever would be great!!

Congrats, that is an awesome purchase....

I think for the better power, the Cambridge would be better, Or you could look at the Integra receivers. I am looking into Anthem for a new receiver, which is also supposed to be 4 ohm rated, the MRX700 is supposed to have a Torid Transformer Power supply so that would mean better/truer power. It will be about $1999 upon debut, or the MRX500 is $1499, which is what I am looking at to hopefully power some Excite X16s and the X22.

Hopefully rded will be along to give you his Dynaudio expert advise, as he knows a lot about the range of products.

I will say tho, that while most Dyns can be powered by an AVR, you should really add an amp to your setup so that you can do them justice. I would suggest perhaps as an alternative another solution for you.

Try this NAD 5 channel amp $799 paired with an Onkyo 707 $499

for $1300 you have a better system then any of the other receivers listed above.

Or if you want to save a $100, this refurb Marantz would be a great buy also.

not a bad idea RE: the NAD + marantz - but think I will go for a quality AVR and then get a really solid amp once I can afford it a bit later - to really do justice for the dyns ( will add a center channel + sub later as well - so may do them all at once with a big / decent amp )...

leaning towards the cambridge audio 650r purely based on clean audio power - especially for 2.0 - which my setup will be for a while untill I get the other stuff together...

Define what a "quality AVR" is? What is your budget for an AVR and what are your applications for it as far as pecentage on Music/HT use? Does HDMI 1.4 with 3D capabilities matter to you?

The Cambridge Azur is a sonically sound receiver but has its fair share of HDMI issues. But if you plan to bypass its video path and hooking the mdmi from BDP straight to the TV, you should be alright.

Ahh , Quality as in sonically decent + decent components used - Im probably 65/35% Movies to music..

At first I was looking to get an hdmi 1.4 AVR just so I wouldn't need to upgrade for a while - but I wasn't hugely fussed - the main drawcard for me is possibly using the HDMI audio return channel feature.


So I took the plunge on the Cambridge Azur the other day - However I know the guys at the Home theatre store pretty well and they are happy to look after me if I have any issues / need to exchange it etc..

Took it home - wired up some chord cables to the dynaudio 220's - then began setting up the AVR with hdmi etc etc..

so this is the current setup ( let me know if there is a better way to go about things ! - still newish to HT / AVR setup etc )

PS3 hdmi into AVR ( BD/DVD input )
AVR hdmi out into sony xbr46" (input one)
Optical Audio cable from sony xbr46" into AVR ( input 1 ) (for digital TV)


got the system working like that - added about 250ms of lip sync delay after some testing - and watched 2 blu rays through and all was perfect / sounded amazing ! (wanted to turn it up louder - but it was pretty late by the time I got things setup!)

Sound is great - still have some fine tweaks to do RE: speaker placement / settings - but for a quick setup - the audio was amazing from fantastic mr fox blu ray in dts master HD - ( changed the OSD menu audio settings so 5.1 is downconverted to stereo ) - the 650R picked up my stereo output straight away and is outputting correctly (dts hd master showing etc)..


The only thing I'm sort of puzzled about - Is I would have liked to have my sony XBR remote control the AVR via HDMI CEC - so I could change inputs and the AVR would also change inputs etc etc..

As it is - I have to use both remotes - Sony remote for changing the AV , and then the AVR remote to change the AV to match and of course volume control....

I suppose that's why universal remotes exist - but would have liked to pair them up - but the XBR doesnt seem to recognise the hdmi from the AVR when i go into settings / search for devices - possibly because the AVR hdmi is outputting to the sony ?? but my sony doesn't have an hdmi output it seems , just 4 inputs :S

anyways at first report it is sounding fantastic - but would love to get the av / input / remote situation a little bit more simplified !!

only other annoyance is the 1 second delay of audio input response on the Cambridge audio receiver ( ie if its not streaming audio - and I begin a music track or unpause a movie it will miss the first second of audio ) - which I have read quite a bit about - not a huge deal - but would be nice if it wasn't there!!

First off, are you British mate? As nobody(well hardly anyone) uses Chord Company Cables on this side of the pond

Congrats on the purchase of the Azur. It defintely is one great sounding receiver. As far as your HDMI CEC with the receiver and the Sony XBR, it really depends. In my experience, the HDMI CEC on my XBR4 works with my old Onkyo 605 and Denon 3808 receivers but not with my current Arcam AVR600. But is is a feature I do not really want personally becuase I do not want my TV turning on when I listen to CDs while using the receiver as a processor/amp, unless you are using your TV as video/graphic interface for say a music server... With that said, TVs actually add background noise(hum) to some extent- worse in some plasmas.

I do not know if Cambridge is working on a fix for that 1 audio delay or if that is the best they can do at this point. HDMI handshaking issues are pretty common to "audiophile/boutique type" receivers and or processors. Don't feel too bad, my Arcam has a 2-3 second audio delay every time I switch inputs. 2 years and Multiple updates later, they still haven't resolved it. Alas it's a small price to pay for a great sonic performance

As far as your remote conrtrol dilema, I suggest for you to get a universal remote and to be specific, see if you can snag one of those Harmony remotes-they are exrtemely intuitive and easy to set up/

Looking forward to audition some excites shortly, any thaught on the center channel?

I know the Xcite x16 is quite nice and very coherent as Callas would say but I would like to know how good the center channel will perform. I want to audition as soon as possible since I have been racking up some OT and I might start my overhaul shortly.

Anyone heard the x12, just wondering how they perform in the lower end.
Not to mention I consider some Totems Raimaker I wonder how the X12 compares to it in the lower end.

see what I wrote in your thread. And when I say they are very coherent speakers. Here is what it means...

A coherent speaker is a speaker that is able to present tremendous detail from top to bottom. Meaning: Detail in the highs, clarity in the mids and bass that's textured and tight.

When I was at my dealer to hear the Excites, he told me Dynaudio is the most coherent speakers he has. And he has T+A, Amphion, Wilson Audios, Totems, Dyns, Dalis, Arriel Acoustics, and several others, but he thinks Dyns are the most coherent he has.


He also said, he didn't think the X22 was all that good because it was so small and didn't think it could hang with the Towers until one day he had a guy buy upgrade the X16s to the X32s and when he set it all up he was very impressed with the center channel... and for as small as it is, he thinks in the price range it is one of the best you can get.

Thanks for the reply Steve really appreciate it I hope these guys can land me a pair of Excites 16 or 12. Would prefer the 16 if the price is right.

The Excites don't have the "fun factor" that say the Totems do, but they have probably one of the most neutral sounds I have heard
