I'm not the only one who automatically loves anything inspired by Philip K. Dick's work, am I? I've never read any of his work personally, but every movie based on his stuff is just great.

I think that's why I like this one as much as I do. Screw Spielberg. I'd probably like this picture with anyone behind the helm.

I didn't read everything, but is there some issue about like that there is much grain in 'Minority Report'?

It's that movie from Spielberg starring Tom Cruise right?...
Hm, I'd also expect that to have a more modern clean look.
But I don't really care if it looks good, something different for a change in such a movie.
Yet I would personally, seeing the setting, leave it really clean.

The DP Janusz Kaminski likes to use grainy stocks. And Spielberg lets him (frankly, I really like it). Just because it's a futuristic movie, it doesn't mean the movie itself look as clean as it could be.
But the hell that was raised for titles like Ghostbusters will probably be repeated when Minority Report comes out.

Much grain is not an issue.
But we'll see if the movie is "naturally" transferred like it should, or if it's digitally processed to your wrong liking.

I didn't mean to imply that "grain is wrong", I'm not one of those.
I like everything as-is, so if it is grainy, the home-video should be too just the same.
I'm just saying, it's unusual for a futuristic movie (especially a more recent one) to be extra grainy.
But yeah, like I said, something different for a change.

Minority Report has an aggresive desaturated look - they were attempting to give you the feel of a black and white film noir while still using color film. The film also uses exceptionally "grainy" high contrast film stock, again trying to capture the feeling of a black and white film noir. It was a bold experiment, and I think it turned out rather well. They repeated this look with War of the Worlds, and there were some DVD reviewers who cried bloody murder at the grain, lens flares, desaturated color, etc. Trying to tell these people that this was the intended look of the film did no good - like talking to a glass of water - in their eyes, anything with grain or excessive grain is automatically bad, and there is no convincing them otherwise. These same reviewers are going to pounce on Minority Report. Nothing we can do about it.

Hm, I never saw the movie but I thought it looked similar to 'I Robot'.
The other way around of course, but I remember them having a very similar style, in colors too.
But I'll see what it's like later.

Awesome.

It was this and fight club. The 2 movies I've been waiting for.

And now they are both confirmed.

No, Minority Report definitely has a bleaker palette. A whole lot more grain I expect too, because if I recall, I, Robot doesn't have visible grain in the picture due to the fineness of the stock.

I can understand a little why you might want to draw parallels, but they're more different than alike.

WOW, FINALLY I'm not the only one that likes a movie that other do as well. I wazs so tired of hearing about people say oh that film is bad or this movie sucked. Glad ot hear other enojyed this movie as I did if not more. Personally this WILL be a day one buy for me as well.

I personaly thought the film was supped to look like it did becasue they wanted ot try and create the feel of a dream in a sort of way. Because the sceme of it was stopping future crimes mainly murders. SO I felt the grain and color sceme was intended to try and create that real feel of a dream aspect, know what I mean. Just my OP.

Screw Spielberg?! It was based off of a short novel. Spielberg may have gotten the idea for the plot and characters from Dick, but Spielberg had to twist things a bit to make it into a movie, thus being adapted for the screen. And not to mention the beautiful style of the movie, all Spielberg's. Don't be so quick to discredit the amazing work of one of the biggest director's of our time because you're pissed he won't release his movies on blu-ray.

BTW: Do you even know what the novel which 'Blade Runner' is based off of is really called? I also guess that you would discredit Richard Linklater for 'A Scanner Darkly' and Ridley Scott for 'Blade Runner'. Go and read the novels bud, it should be an educational experience for you. And until you know the differences between each story and its cinematic counterpart, then you can do all the director bashing you want.

It was a really good film. Not sure if it will be a 1st day buy but one that will eventually find its way into my collection.

I never saw this one...don't ask me why lol. 2002 was a busy year for me. I'll probably give it a blind buy. A lot of positive feedback and high rating on imdb. This will be Spielberg's 2nd catalog release....hopefully it sells well and Spielberg will take notice and bring us Jaws next for the 35 Anniv!...
