Yeah, I used to overlook GoHastings, but I have bought a couple titles off of them recently, an they all have been in excellent shape. It helps though that BDs have that scratch resistant coating. So buying used is a safer choice these days.

The only problem I've run into with buying used lately is either missing or slightly damaged slipcovers or outer packaging. Like when I bought Transformers used, I didn't get the outer slipcover and therefore I don't have the Transformerrs title on the cover. And I just picked up the Matrix set "Used-Like New" but the outer box was damaged a bit.

New BD's have dropped in price so much that many of them are about the same price or cheaper than used ones at our local stores.

i haven't purchased any used discs yet, only new. it would have to be something incredibly rare that i couldn't find online or in a store for me to consider buying it used. and i don't think we've gotten to that point yet. i also a couple of times a long time ago, bought used dvd's and they turned out to be in not so great shape. the disc's were abused, the cases had dents, so i prefer new with blu!

Same here man. Mint condition when they arrive. I'd say my collection is 75% new, 25% gohastings.

I've purchased a couple from a local pawn dealer. They are selling for $10.00 each. They let me look at the quality of the disc and if there are any problems I can exchange for another $10 title. Haven't had a problem yet. I picked up You don't mess with the Zohan for 10. Good price this movie is NEVER on sale at a decent price new, and is not worth more then $10 IMO.

I've bought lots of used DVDs and Blu ray from local merchants. I've never seen a Blu ray with any damage at all... and sometimes used DVDs that were taken care of have been better than new ones, because I've gotten more than a few brand new DVDs that were scratched up when I opened them.

What I wouldn't do, though, is mail-order a used movie unless I knew the person/company or knew someone I trusted who had personal experience with them. I prefer buying my used stuff where I can inspect it before I've paid for it, and if there is a problem I have a local place to return it to and most places have at least a 1-week return policy for used discs around here.

Mostly new, but we have a couple of good stores that sell used discs. They only carry examples with pristine cases and all of the inside inserts complete. They're nearly as anal about their discs as I am!

I would think there would be more of a chance of getting a bad used disc through a pawn store or flea market so I avoid them.

I got District 9 used on amazon for 10$, no scratches, and case and slipcover were both intact.

I'll buy used if the price is significantly cheaper, half of my collection came from gohastings. I got a 25 pack of new blu cases so if the come in less than pristine condition I swap the cas and I have an instant like new movie.

My one exception is sets that have multiple discs. If it's just a digital copy I don't care, but if it's a multi disc box set I'll buy new since I don't want to risk getting it in 6 dvd cases. Of course, if a forum member had something like that used I wouldn't hesitate.

Off topic, but I love the trend of blu ray tv sets coming in fairly slim single cases. Huge dvd box sets take too much room.

I'll buy used if I can find it. A local pawn shop sold Blu's for $7-$10 until just recently. I was snapping them up as fast as they could put them out.

They have since bumped them up to $15. Maybe I shouldn't have created such demand for them.

New: 71%
Used: 29%

I typically buy whatever is cheapest, since I am on a tighter budget as of recent. Jarhead, used and new price was exactly the same on Amazon. Obviously I got new, I have gotten some pretty awesome deals from Blockbusters 50% off and amazon.

If I buy used, like others have mentioned here, I buy either Very good or Like new condition, and have been impressed with what I have purchased, and saving some hard earned money along the way
