I'm assuming the new odds for Avatar are a typo, and that it's actually fallen to a 10/1.
I'm surprised/saddened to see Bullock as the favorite for Best Actress. I almost don't want to admit that I even saw The Blind Side, but I had a streak that I wanted to uphold (of seeing all the Best Picture nominees, for 6 years running now), and I forced myself to go see it. She's the best part of the movie, but that's not saying much. At all. Edit: Out of boredom I checked out the odds for each category. I don't know where these came from, but whoever is offering these odds worked in a nice 15-20% profit for themselves. Since I don't really bet at all, I don't know if that's a pretty standard profit % or what. Last edited by toef; 02-23-2010 at 12:44 AM. |

The story I read them from said it was from Paddy Power...which after Googling it just now, I found out that is IRELAND's largest bookmaker. Avatar's 10/1 (from Vegas) was on December 17th; the day before it opened. Last edited by Diesel; 02-23-2010 at 01:49 AM. |

Diesel, nice images.
The first one is full of fairly well known Oscar trivia, but the Avatar vs The Hurt Locker thing is interesting. Obviously Avatar would be the highest grossing winner, but I didn't realize The Hurt Locker would be the lowest. |

The Hurt Locker has a lot of momentum, but Avatar could surprise. PErsonally I would love to see Inglorious Basterds get the win, but that is the slimmest of chances.

Am I the only person who thinks meryl streep upsets(if thats an upset) Sandra bullock? Last year mickey rourke was the feel good nomination and lost to Sean Penn and Eddie Murphy Won award for his role in Dream Girls then Lost To Alan Arkin... Maybe I am reading to much into this..

I think a better quote is from Ricky Nelson, "you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself". Regardless of who wins, some people are going to be disappointed. I say let the Academy voters do what they want to do, and we can like it or not, but it's their award to give away. |

I'm with you and think Meryl will be the victor. I'm also going against the pundits in two other categories: Avatar for Best Picture and Inglorious Basterds for Best Original Screenplay. I'll probably eat my words come Sunday night, but that's my thinking (not necessarily my choices).

It all comes down to how many of the Academy members will vote for a Republican character.
![]() In all honesty, Sandra Bullock was good but I really enjoyed Meryl's work much more. I know everyone is of the opinion that Jeff Bridges will win the Best Actor oscar, but imo his performance pales in comparison to those nominated last year, most notably Mickey Rourke. I think that for the lead actor categories, this year is relatively weak. |
