There is a corrected version that has been released in the US. If you look at the specs on the back of the case under the "Subtitles" section it will say something along the lines of "English (Theatrical)". That's what you want.

I heard that they daid they where releasing this but I don't believe anyone hgas found any anywhere. Better of wtching it on dvd with theatrical subs then the blu ray with the incorrect subtitles. It completely changes the tone of the film.

Let the right one in has my favourite scene 'ever' in a horror film.
[Show spoiler]the final pool scene

I've seen corrected copies at my local Best Buys, so they are out there.

That is good news. Lcukily I live in a region B area (though that had the mix up of not having lossless audio with many copies and having to get a replacment disc). It was free of charge to replace the disc, but still a pain in the but.

I think City of God would be a good pick.

If you had a similar movie club and were kicking it off, what would you show? The sky is the limit but I am thinking anti-blockbuster, more foreign or independent, something most might not have seen (note that most are not movie buffs). Any suggestions?
Saints and Soldiers would be great! An independent film that is highly underrated!

In that case, I would suspect you would more than likely end up with the original release with the poorly done subs. At least those are the only copies I've found at my local BBVs and Hollywood Videos.

I went ahead and showed 400 blows. I put together a little keynote presentation (Mac version of Powerpoint) going over some basics of the movie explaining the title and the figurative translation as well as some background of the director to kind of set the tone of the movie.

We had 9 people show up (4 guys, 5 girls). I think it went OK, we had a bit of discussion about it at the end. I doubt anybody will go out and pick up a copy of the movie but all but 1 at least somewhat enjoyed it.

In the end, I really enjoyed it, it was my 3rd viewing of it (one of them was the commentary) and I keep picking things up I hadn't noticed. It definitely gets better the more you watch it as you really understand the brilliance of it.

So thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I really appreciate it. I also got some great ideas from everyone already added to my netflix queue.

When you host another time, I would throw Volver out for consideration. It's out on blu (directed by Almodovar and starring Penelope Cruz) and is an awesome movie that I think would appeal to both males and females.

I would also second recommendations I saw for City of God, The Orphanage, Pan's Labyrinth and Black Book. I'd also throw out Devil's Backbone (best ghost story ever IMHO ).

I would definitely agree that City of God has to be there at the top for consideration along with Black Book. But what about Persepolis ?
