Massive Fincher fan here. He's my favourite director. All of his films are superbly directed and I can't wait to see The Social Network and I'm really curious to see what he does with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake. Anywho, my list!
1. Fight Club - If I had to pick a "perfect movie", for me, it would be Fight Club. I've seen this movie countless times and every time I jst sit there watching in awe at what Fincher and co. had created. A masterpiece. 2. Se7en - Another masterpiece. Pretty much on par with Fight Club. Fincher creates dark moody imagry in his films and it's on total display here. The ending still rocks me whenever I see it. 3. Zodiac - It always baffles me when people say that they don't like this movie. I'd even call this a masterpiece too. Am I going too far with the word "masterpiece" here? Probably. But this is a movie that I watch in awe at the amount of detail, accuracy and all around fantastic film making on display here. 4. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - I really do love this movie. I can understand why people compare it to Forrest Gump, but it's really unfair to say this is a lesser movie because it has a similar aspect to another film. 5. Panic Room - After watching this again recently, for the first time in years, I'd forgotten how good this movie actually is. Fincher himself called this a "Good B-Grade movie" and I agree in the sense that it's a sort of standard thriller that is absolutely elevated due to his direction. In the hands of a lesser director, this movie would be a stock standard thriller with nothing special about it. 6. The Game - This is a thriller that, despite Fincher's fantastic directing and deeper storyline than Panic Room, I found not that special. I've seen it twice and, while it's a good thriller, there's something about it which doesn't latch onto me as much as his other films. I've never been a massive Douglas fan to begin with and the ending wasn't anything special despite the big twist. Still, a better than average thriller. 7. Alien 3 - Not as bad as what most people make it out to be. Considering the conditions Fincher was working with (Uncomplete script, studio interference, etc) he made a pretty good film. Had he been given better control of the movie and set script to work with, it probably could have been great. |

This is a great poll, and a tough one! I really enjoy all of these movies, and own them all. I voted for The Game as my favorite, but really quite a few of his I would deem my 'favorites.' If I had to rank them:
1- The Game 2- Se7en 3- Zodiac 4- Fight Club 5- Curious Case of Benjamin Button 6- Alien3 7- Panic Room |

Since you included favorite David Fincher film, I would say Alien 3 simply because if I were marooned on a deserted island, I would like to have my BD equiped laptop and my Alien BDs. Otherwise, I have enjoyed the other films he has directed but he is not my favorite director.

1.) Zodiac
2.) Se7en 3.) Fight Club 4.) The Social Network 5.) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 6.) Alien 3 The first 3 are all really close calls. Benjamin Button was really slow, but I have a feeling I will like it more upon repeat viewings. Social Network was good, don't get me wrong, but I think it was highly overrated. Again, it might grow on me once I watch it on blu. As for The Game, I never actually finished watching it. And I either don't remember Panic Room or I never saw it.. or paid enough attention to it. Despite these facts, David Fincher is pretty much my favorite director. |
