I just cracked out my old 3-disc Special Edition DVD on my 65" rear-projection TV. I hadn't seen it in a couple of years and was very surprised by how strong it looks upconverted. Sharp detail and a fine layer of grain. I then watched THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE on BD afterwards, and while absolutely gorgeous, it wasn't as drastically night and day to the quality on the FALCON DVD.
Is the FALCON BD a massive step up in detail from the previous DVD? Usually BD is by far the obvious choice, but the reason I ask is because I was a bit underwhelmed by Warner's KING KONG BD for not being much of an upgrade. I wanna know if this is worth upgrading at some point, even if I'm happy with the DVD. |

Does the 3 disc Dvd have everything that the Blu-ray has? Is there anything extra on the Blu-ray?
I think this movie is going to be on Turner Movie Classics soon. If I watch it and really like it, I think I might order the 3 dics Dvd edition (I think it's a 3 disc) and wait to see if a new edition of this Blu-ray will come out. If I am going to buy it twice I like the idea of having the 3 disc Dvd now and maybe later having a Blu-ray edition that has everything from the 3 disc Dvd. This is what I did with Dawn of the Dead (1978). With Dawn of the Dead (1978) I picked up the 4 disc Dvd edition instead of the Blu-ray. I am thinking maybe a Blu-ray of 1978 Dawn of the Dead will come out with 3 versions of the movie like the 3 disc Dvd has and so on. |

That being said, I tried a little experiment last night because I was investigating the possible sync issues with the new blu-ray of Mad, Mad World. My setup is HDMI out from my Pioneer BDP-51FD (audio set to PCM internal decoding) to my Pio VSX-819 receiver, HDMI from receiver to my LG LCD, and I have two Sony tower speakers connected to my receiver (my setup is just 2ch stereo). Well last night just for a little experiment I went HDMI out from my Pio blu player directly to my TV, and then analog stereo out from my blu-ray player to my receiver. For whatever reason, with HDMI connected directly to my TV the audio was exactly in sync on both discs, but the analog audio connected to my receiver was very noticeably ahead of the video (the audio delay on my receiver doesn't work with analog, only HDMI, don't know about digital). I switched everything back to my usual setup and had the same problems as before, but not as bad as the analog audio setup. Obviously I don't consider ditching my setup and just using my TV's audio to be a solution, lol! For one thing, before I got my receiver and speakers and just had my blu-ray player connected directly to my TV, I had audio sync issues with other different discs, and many of those discs now play perfectly fine in my current setup! It seems there's no perfect audio setup for EVERY blu-ray disc (and/or DVD)...some are going to have issues with one setup, yet play perfectly fine in a different setup. |

One of the two original props sold for $4 million yesterday http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...n-8964038.html If that's a touch out of your price range Ozymandius at The Fedora Lounge makes some very nice replicas

Nope it does not have the other two versions of the Maltese Falcon : 1931 Ricardo Cortez version 1936 Satan Met a Lady I didnt like either of the other versions, so I didnt mind retiring the DVD. I wound up getting the Region Free Steelbook from Amazon.com/UK which had better cover art. It's a film I dont mind getting a steelbook for. |

If you want to get the 1931 version starring Ricardo Cortez then your only option is the 3-DVD Special Edition release, which also includes the 1936 version starring Warren William (entitled "Satan Met a Lady"). |

I just grabbed myself a ticket for the theatrical showing of The Maltese Falcon at my local theater on February 21. Here's looking forward to seeing one of my all-time top 10 movies on a big screen!
Incidentally, I noticed that a 30th Anniversary showing of Pretty In Pink is also happening at the same theater. Maybe there will be a 30th Anniversary Blu-ray for this film, because all of us lifelong fans have been left hanging in the dark for far far too long. |

Sorry if this has already been asked. But the official page on Blu-ray.com says this BD includes Swedish subtitles. I'm quite new to this, but does this means that it's absolutely certain, or can the page be edited by different members ect? Just don't want to risk getting a copy without Swedish subtitles.
Thanks! |
