To add a bit of fuel to the fire, he even loved the new score that Joe Hisaishi recorded for the English version of Laputa, and felt that it actually added to the film. As someone who genuinely agrees with that, I can only say that any accusations that it spoils the movie are, at best, invalid. Especially if the director has no qualm with it. Granted, the Disney dub of Laputa is not perfect: there were a couple of extra lines I could've done without (I did like the pirates' dialogue though and Hamill's "Goodbye! Enjoy the ride!") and maybe the leads DID sound too much like teens, but overall it's a dub I enjoy unreservedly, not just for everything else it offers, but for the new score. It's gratifying to hear it hasn't been lost for good. |

We don't mind lots of pictures, but still images can only say so much. Everyone who has this likes to only give like a quick overall impression of the video and audio, if anybody would like to chime in with how this actually looks and sounds in motion with a little more detail... pretty please?

Are there even any special features on this? As I recall, the special features on the nausicaa disc were not subtitled and will not even be on the u.s. disc. Disney is including the features that were on the dvd and the lands of ghibli thing, so.... probably the same thing for laputa.

^That was exactly what i was looking for, thanks.
I know this sounds weird, but I saw Mononoke almost 10 years ago on video, and then Spirited Away on dvd a few years later, and I hated them both, so... yeah. Flash forward to last February, Spirited Away was actually on tv on like a Sunday morning, it was my birthday too I think, and I just sat there stunned in silence, couldn't believe what a sad little fool I must have been when I wrote these films off as weird and dumb. This was less than a year ago, and I am pretty upset that I have never actually seen the beauty of a Miyazaki film in a theater, so these blu ray releases are really exciting for me I will be importing this sometime soon, unless disney miraculously announces a release before then (doubtful). The extras include: - Interactive script (you can select the scene and the audio will play with a virtual book of the script) - Full storyboard (Japanese vocal only I think, with no English subtitles) - English version of the movie with the new score (Japanese subtitles can be turned off when you press enter, not through the usual subtitles button) - Introductory and ending theme song video showing with the original movie backgrounds/animation but without the cast credits in the way - Mini-making of documentary (SD quality I think) - Promotional videos for its original Japanese home and theatrical release (SD) - Promotional trailers for upcoming/other video releases (Ponyo, Wallace and Gromit, etc.) I think that is about it as far as I can recall. Pretty disappointed that these are not English subbed, but still enjoyed the Blu-ray immensely. |

Ok, so I was at a relative's home the other day, and I spotted his copy in a regular BD case... Knowing there are no words yet on a Taiwanese / HK version, I got curious and picked it up to view it. Guess what? I "claims" it was released by a media company based in mainland China!
![]() You may call me whatever you want, despite its BD-look-alike case (it is in a much much darker shade of blue) I just don't trust the quality or legitimacy of disc-based medias from the mainland. Plus, while the Japanese version is on a 50Gb disk, this version claims it is only on a 25Gb disk. ![]() Either way, could anyone confirm if this China version is legit or not? ![]() |

Certainly, it is his latest... but I mean in terms of bringing those Studio Ghibli classics to BD, I still think Totoro will be next followed by Kiki.
