Go ahead and buy the HD DVD player, if you're a fan of watching those films. No one here is ready to admit it but the chances of HD DVD dying are less likely everyday and you're more likely to see both formats dying due to becoming outdated then HD DVD all of a suddeny dying. As much as people hate HD DVD in this forum I think one year from today you're not going to see any difference. I don't think a year from today you're going to see any let up or any difference in this format war, and the reasons why HD DVD sucks are still going to be up there and basically people are going to be repeating the same things but with a few small alterations, like maybe 6 more months and Paramount will be back or something. But if you wanna watch HD material you should do so NOW. You're more likely to see HD in general becoming outdated and dying then HD DVD dying at this point in time.
I for one own both, and although blu may be superior in this or that form HD DVD visually isn't tha differnt and I'm using a 2 differnt Sony Bravia Monitors as well as a Klipsch surround setup and in my home nobody from the sofa can see the differnce, and really only the differnce is in titles. So if you want the titles go ahead and go for it I say, more power to ya. Be aware though that you're only going to buy about 15 HD DVD's maybe 25 but no more. And like I said AT this point it's more likely that 1080p is going to die out before one of these formats dies out. There is no sign what so ever that HD DVD is letting up. If anytihng they're going to go all the way to the end even if that end is being second place in sales. I'm still going to pick up Transformers and Face/Off pretty soon here. And I really don't care if it's in HD DVD, but Face/Off is a pretty cool flick as well as the Bourne Series, Matrix, and Heros. I'm more inclined to buy one of those films then a Blu Ray film I'm just blindly taking a chance on, even if it may become awesome. I just wanna get titles I know for sure I'll wanna watch, that's all. It's all expensive, and consindering what I invested in both my TV's and sound setup, I could care less if hypothetically I'm hurting Blu Ray and what not by buying HD DVD's I wanna use my Setup to it's Maximum Potential Right NOW!!, and until I see a valid reason behind why HD DVD's hurt my setup then I'll continue to buy both HD DVD's and Blu Ray's at my own discretion. And if HD DVD's die so be it, it's not like my HD DVD's are going to vanish. In the past I've owned Sega Dreamcasts, Sony Mini Disks, and I don't regret one bit owning those systems, I'm use to it. You get media for your system you enjoy when you have it and you move on, you should accept those risks the moment you buy it. If you're remotely at all in the computer world or in electronics world it's pretty much main stream and universaly accepted that these things happen. Did you all start off with HDTV's as your first TV? Last edited by phil; 09-01-2007 at 06:31 AM. |

I know people like you, and I hate them. They don't care about anything but themselves. They make no sense and can not see beyond their own stupidity. The same opinion that you state here, I can safely say - applies to most aspects of your life as well. Again, people like you make this world a shitty place. This is putting aside this whole Blu vs Red issue. People need to pick a f***** side and stick to it. Enough of this happy horse shit "OH IM NEUTRAL" look at me, I support both formats because I am so IN! Blah blah blah blah blah. Attention wh0r3s! I've embrassed both Blu Ray and HD DVD into my library and I like Blu alot more then HD DVD only beacuse of the greater title selection. If.... HD DVD were to have a better title selection one week or one month or one quarter then I'll buy more HD DVD's in that segment of time.
But in the end I'm saying HD -DVD is greater then Standard DVD's, therefore I'd rather result to buying HD DVD's over standard DVD's. NOT HD DVD's are Greater then Blu Ray. So if you could explain to me why standard dvd's are greater then HD DVD's then I might making a chance in my current habbit. Oh and drinkmore me and Yang-she both own HD DVDs and Blu Ray's, so I'll be passing the word on how much you hate us and everything etc.. Should make for pretty funny conversations. But you wanna explain all the swearing again? ![]() Last edited by phil; 09-01-2007 at 06:50 AM. |

If you be neutral you are actually helping hd-dvd along with blu-ray so lets just say because of this you end up buying 30 hd-dvds and 18 Blu-Ray movies that would mean you are supporting Hd-Dvd not so much as for Blu-Ray. I think its better to choose a side and stick with it in wars there are only 2 sides so it comes down to whose side are you on?

This whole side picking thing seems to be very benificial to one company and less bennificial to myself, the user or individual. Would it be wrong for me to own both an Apple pc and a windows based pc in my home? It's the same idea in my home, I have both players and therefore are using both when I feel like it. Both have strong points and weak points. And I don't think Apple or Microsoft care the slightest bit that I have either of the opposite PC's in my home.
Oh and by Yang DrinkMoore I meant |

Supporting both formats just means you have the money for both, and the love of movies for both. This tiresome 'war' will be over one day, sooner then later, and either BD will have won, and those with HD-DVD players (or combo players), will still enjoy their movies, or both formats will have lost due to average Joe's not giving a crap, and keeping with standard DVD, or the third, and most likely option, downloading of movies will have taken off, (like downloading music), and no one will give a crap about little shiny discs. I personally, over the last few days, have begun to think it's the third option that will ultimately prevail, given the idiotic nature of most consumers, that don't recognize quality in the first place; SACD anyone? I mean, let's look back...BETA lost. Heck, even further back, Quadraphonic sound lost, or how about something a bit more modern, Mini Discs lost as well. All were better formats (with Mini Discs clearly having advantages over CD'S), and yet all lost. It's not a matter of BD winning, or HD-DVD, it's a matter of High Def winning, and I just don't think that it will. It seems the same people that think that downloading music, and listening with crappy ear buds, are the same sort of people that are content with watching videos on tiny little screens (video iPods), and prefer pan and scan. We are the minority when it comes to demanding better audio and video, and we will be unless something radical happens. |

Agreed COMPLETELY with the ABOVE, It's like I said I'd rather buy an HD DVD over a standard dvd, nothing more, nothing less.
It had nothing to do with me saying HD DVD was greater or better then Blu Ray. |

This is one of the most difficult format wars. In the BETA and VHS format war both sides had equal studio support until a winner started to appear. This exclusive studio stuff is going to drive consumers nuts especially if we see Warner go BLU-RAY or HD-DVD exclusive some time in the future. Any more movements like Paramount did and more and more people will be interested in dual format players.

I for one do not fault for someone going neutral just so he could own a few movies that are only on HD-DVD. It's the same with blu-ray but is the extra money really worth being spent? I can understand if money isn't a thing to you but some people cannot afford to go both formats especially the one you bought is going to be obsolete is going to waste unless your quick to sell all your movies and player on ebay. |

I don't think it's a good idea to compare this format war with VHS/Beta. Things are so differnt with the time period. For instance the PC's the internet, the fact that almost every PC drive today has a DVD drive built into it. This is all differnt, you knew with VHS/Beta the winner was going to stay around for a large period of time. At the rate we're flying at currently whose to say we'll still be at 1080p. Things lately have been coming out at an ever so increasing rate. Just think how many people you know own cell phones, I'm just saying that the world is based on technology is changing at an exponential rate.
All of this is nothing close to the time period of VHS/Beta. At least VHS/BETA worked with EVERY TV. this High Def stuff is really only useful on PC's to a certain degree, and HDTV's. I'd like to think that most people get HDTV Broadcasting and cable before HD players. I accept that this might not be true. But I'm going further to say that the overall population of High Def Television users, and High Def Content Demanded Users are 2 differnt things and should be considered. Like someone said earlier we might be the minority in the grand scheme of things hence the high prices on everything. I don't belive VHS/Beta users were minorities, it worked with every single television. Last edited by phil; 09-01-2007 at 07:05 AM. |

DrinkMore, I know you mean well but none of this rhetoric will get us anywhere. We should not strive to be the mirror image of AVS but rather be the better men and women in the format war.
Buy Blu-ray to show your support. It matter not that some of us buy the odd HD DVD title if the vast majority of our purchases are BD because that means what people like me buy help Blu-ray over HD DVD and help HD Media in general compared with hurting HD media in general if I were to still buy DVD. |

Yeah. But life isnt' that simple lol. I mean both apple and windows based PC's are still around, and that debate which started in the 70's / 80's still goes around to this very day. There are valid points to both arguments, but in the end sometimes the consumer just has to pick what suits his/her needs the most and go with it. Oh and you'd be amazed how many people out there own both an Apple PC as well as a windows based PC.
Most people should be ready to make those choices I mean you do it everyday and sometimes don't even realize it. Do you own a PS3 or an xbox 360? or maybe even a wii? Do you own a PC or an Apple? Do you own Sneakers or Dress Shoes? or Both? etc. I think in the end you should allow the individual or consumer to make his/ her choices on their own without impeading. Because afterall, his/her reason may be way differnt from your own so always remember and consider that before getting upset over the whole situation. Last edited by phil; 09-01-2007 at 07:16 AM. |
