This post alone proves you never take anyone's opinion on movies. Everyone has different tastes in movies. One person loves it, next one hates it, etc etc...
I happened to love this movie. It was very stupid, but very funny! Don't take anyone's word for it, see it for yourself so you can judge for yourself. |

Amazed at the hate for this movie. Not sure I'd buy it, but it was an entertaining rental. If you like Carrell on the Office, or that weird guy from the Hangover, you probably would like it I'd think. Not sure what people were expecting.

2010 wasn't really the standout year for mainstream comedy... 2009 at least had The Hangover (aka the movie by which every comedy for the next 5 years will be judged by) but I found 'Dinner for Schmucks' and 'Date Night' both incredibly average overall.
DFS is entertaining from the view of seeing it as a silly character piece, it's more of a sketch show binded together to make a film out of the loose ends. It horribly underused the awesome Nick Kroll who barely does anything and the marketing makes you think the majority of the movie is about the dinner and the aftermath, which couldn't be further from the truth. Personally, as far as daft comedy goes I found 'Hot Tub Time Machine' far superior last year (not sure of the theatrical release date in the States, but in the UK it was 2010) and 'Cyrus' probably ranked highest for me on the more indie side. ('Four Lions' was incredible, but I don't think it has had that wide a release in the States, so most people will probably see that first on Blu-Ray in the next few months). |

Watched it with some friends last weekend and didn't like it very much. I wasn't expecting much given the plot but a lot of the movie seemed forced and predictable. Steve Carrell became incredibly annoying. Glad we rented it. However all of us almost died laughing when
[Show spoiler] . That became our running joke for the weekend.

I rented 'Dinner For Schmucks' last week. The movie started off OK enough, but, frankly, I think it went too far by the time it was over. Too over the top, to the point of absurdity.
Generally glad I watched it, but also glad I didn't buy it because I won't remotely have an interest in watching it again. Mark |
