Very important yes but a very subpar movie in my opinion.

Coincidentally, as I voted for The Sound of Music, the Limited Edition box set is being offered as a lightning deal for under $40! Ordered! Thanks blu-ray.com for the reminder and amazon for a great deal!

So hard to pick, The Thin Red Line, Saving Private Ryan, LOST, Inception, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Sound of Music, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang; all absolutely amazing Blu-ray releases, especially with Inception getting the 5.1 isolated score in high rez, we definitely need to see more of that!

In the end I picked Saving Private Ryan, it is truly formidable. However, there are lots of amazing discs on this list, what a great year for Blu-ray fans and movie fans alike.

We are not talking about movie quality here, we are talking best blu ray release of the year.

While personally I dont think Avatar was the best movie of 2010, I still am fair and honest enough to aknowledge that it is the most important release in the history of the blu ray formart.

With its magnitude, it couldnt have been otherwise.

This is an overwhelming list! Maybe after a week or so it can be narrowed down to the top 5 and then a new poll created. I'd like to see who wins out of Alien Anthology, Inception, and Saving Private Ryan if they are the only choices as they seem to be the favorites right now.

Yes I agree on it being the most important in the history of Blu-ray up to now. If you had a poll for that it would certainly belong on top.

In this poll it all depends on the definition of "Best Blu-ray". Everyone will have their own take on it.

Personally I would put the movie Avatar in the bottom 50% of all those released on Blu-ray this year - nowhere near the top.

While my Pioneer is sharper and has better contrast than the average cinema screen, I think that worked to the detriment of the movie, since the CGI seams were more visible. It's a pretty disc, but you need the cinematic scale and depth to really "experience" the movie IMO. I still liked it on home video but it wasn't the kind of mind-blowing experience I had watching it opening night.

My vote went to Beauty And The Beast. Most important disney release to date (you know, until Lion King comes out)

Definitely went with "The Thin Red Line". I see people calling "Saving Private Ryan" the best war movie but it's nothing compared to Malick's extraordinary piece of cinema. Terrific video and audio from the good folks over at Criterion as well.

Both are incredible. To say one is "nothing" compared to the other does such a disservice to either film.

I haven't seen every movie in that list and there are some titles that I will like to see and own but I haven't done so yet. Based on which movies I purchased and saw this year, I will easily give my vote to Inception. In a year with plenty of remakes and sequels, it was really refreshing to see a studio take a chance with an original movie like Inception. It's not just for the special effects or the action, but for the actual story and complexity of it. This movie really grabbed my attention and when I was 1hr and 40 minutes into this movie I looked at my watch to make sure the movie was going to continue and not reaching the end .

It was a great Blu-ray release as well, very good picture and audio quality. I've seen the movie 5 times already and there will be plenty more views to come.

Think you forgot IMO.Also comparing it to a sentimental middle-of-the-road release might make it shine better

Facts?!Are you confusing opinions with facts? If Avatar is the best-selling BD ever, that is a fact.If you feel it's the most important,it's an opinion. What was the most important for BD was it's victory over HD-DVD,not a single release.
