OTOH, few if any MGM titles have ever undergone a BD-specific restoration; even the Bond BDs came from restorations intended for DVD. (Perhaps MGM's best catalog BD PQ-wise is Dances With Wolves, but that belongs to WB in the UK.)
Sorry for incorrectly blaming FOX. Still a shame these oscar winners cant be restored though.

I saw pics of the US edition, and I'll think I'll stick with it, I don't like the UK blue banner and looks to be a matte finish whereas the US version looks glossy!

It is a matte finish but at least the UK version doesn't come with a frisbee.

The US banner is far worse, IMO. They ****ed it up with the inclusion of a DVD copy.

Doesnt look like mate, I got it on my 2 disc Dvd though but may check it out seeing as I have never watched it!

Regarding Platoon blu, mine arrived today, complete with a sabotaged slipcase! I rang amazon to complain and explained that the damage was impossible to happen in transit as it was ripped and folded over!

They said the person packing it should have spotted it so I said either it was Stevie Wonder doing the packing or the person did it on purpose. Sad to think someone done it intentionally, but I dont see how it could go in the envelope otherwise.

Ah well think i'm gonna view tonight and do some dvd comparisons.

Right, the kids are in bed, wifes in work til 10, ive got my tea ready to watch and really in the mood for Platoon!

Put the dvd in first and it was barely watchable, my dvd spec edition, pure pants. The BR wipes the floor with the dvd, im sure once there are screen grabs up everyone will agree.

Anyways, off to enjoy...

P.S receipt in my dvd 10/12/01 £16.90!! And also £16.90 for Enter The Dragon, and some people moan about BR prices nowadays

Are the captions, one during the beginning of the film, stating the place, player generated or like the theatrical release. I only ask because the UK DVD is player generated but the US DVD was theatrical.

I would imagine that they are the captions as displayed in the theatrical screenings. Looking at other MGM films on home video, the early DVD releases of The Terminator used player generated captions but the originals were reinstated by the time of the Ultimate Edition, and the Blu-ray release of RoboCop uses the original captions, unlike the DVD.

I'm fairly sure they are theatrical and not player generated as I dont remember them looking out of place like other player generated texts do.

Cant throw it in to check though as i've sent both my copies back to amazon for a refund now and ordered the US version.
