This was the passion project the director has been trying to make for over 10 years? The story doesn't seem like something that one would be that attached to or obsessed with. It's rather... meh.
The film looks great, and Skarsgard and Rudd work for me, but the rest of the movie itself didn't do much for me. 3/5 |

Critic reviews of this are super disheartening since I've waited so long for this movie, not that it's gonna stop me from watching because I love Jones. I still loved Warcraft despite all its negative press haha so hopefully I enjoy this too when I get to watch it after work.

Source Code was made with a wider, mainstream audience in mind and should be measured in that context. And in that context it succeeded. It tends to be praised by the causal sci-fi fans.
Mute is not going to appeal to mainstream audiences, and therefore won’t appeal to the critics who cater to the mainstream. |

Mute has been panned across the board by critics, most of whom prefer more in unusual films which don’t cater to the mainstream. |

As for your second comment, no. The only time mainstream critics stick their necks out for controversial topics is if the movie in question is Oscar bait. Last edited by Josep5349; 02-23-2018 at 09:33 PM. |

![]() Not sure what that's got to do with my comment. Source Code is Jones' only film that I thought was really good. I wasn't addressing box-office or audience reception. That being said, I agree that it was more "accessible" than Moon and, by the looks of it, Mute. That doesn't really matter to me. I don't regard mainstream movies as inherently better or worse than non-mainstream ones. |

Sadly, after so much anticipation, I can only give this three stars. This visuals are a definite five though, and worth the watch, especially if you are a fan of the genre. They really went all out on the world. The story just wasn't told in a very compelling way.

"Moon" is definitely one of the best genre-films of all time, imo. Although "Source Code" wasn't bad at all, it was an underwhelming experience. Not half as smart as I hoped for. I thought"Warcraft" was OK too, especially after all those terrible reviews. I was hoping for "Mute" to be a great one again ... Curious.
