As a fanboy of pretty much everything that Abrams (except for Undercovers) and Christopher Nolan (whose movies were often written by Jonathan) have made, I did not like the pilot at all. The biggest issue was the god-awful pacing that did not allow the week's self-contained story to have any impact at all. There wasn't enough character development between the two main characters or enough substance the the episode's plot to keep me interested. I really don't like procedural in general, but considering the talent involved I'm expecting this to improve as it goes on. Ideally (for me) it would do what Fringe did and evolve from a case-of-the-week show to a serialized drama, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

I like how everyone on page 3 said they enjoyed it and the 4 responses on page 4 have all ben negative. Oh you Nancy's.
I thought it was very good. As others have said, even if it sucked, I probably still would have continued to watch it because I'm a fan of both Caviezel and Emerson. Really intrigued by the plot and how the 9/11 thing folds out as well as finding out why Finch walks with a limp and can't hardly turn his neck. |

I gave it about 15 minutes before turning it off. It was boring, cliched, stale. Nothing about it was drawing me in. I know I probably should've given it a full episode, or multiple episodes, but I could just sense that it wasn't going to interest me. Shame, because I really wanted to enjoy it because of Jonah.

Watched this off the PVR over the weekend, didn't find it very interesting. I had hoped that it would be a little more sci-fi and less CSI. I didn't find anything about the characters interesting. Will still give it another go this week and see how things shape up.

My wife and I just watched it tonight. We'll give it a few more episodes, but both of us were underwhelmed. The acting and directing were good, but I would have liked to see more character development. Overall, I thought the pilot was just decent.

I thought the writing was sloppy and lazy. It was more concerned with looking slick than making any sense. There was a scene where the cop offers Jim Caviezel a drink. When she takes the cup back you realise she gave it to him to lift his fingerprints off the glass. He's in a police station being questioned about beating up a group of guys on the subway! You mean to tell me they wouldn't have taken his fingerprints the old fashioned way as soon as they got him in the door? Seriously, over the course of one episode there were 4 or 5 WTF moments like this.

i loved it! and i loved the second episode, too, perhaps even more. kind of an easy show to watch, not too much anxiety (as with Fringe or Lost), hahaha. although i DO get nervous sometimes, even though i know the good guy will win, yaddah yaddah.

[Show spoiler] I'm glad we got a little into the past of Mr. Finch. I really like the show so far.

The second episode was much, much better than the awful pilot, but still wasn't all that impressive. The standalone story for this week was much more interesting (although still not great), but there is something incredibly wrong with the action sequences and there are a lot of awkward-looking transitions between camera changes. I really know nothing about filming and editing techniques, so I'm not sure what exactly it is, but there is something that really bothers me about it.
I hope that they do something to make me care about the main characters more, especially Caviezel. Emerson at least has the mysteriousness factor and is starting to get a little bit of backstory, but it seems like Caviezel is on screen solely for poorly executed action scenes and soft-spoken one-liners. I think that the show needs a bit of time to kind of settle into what its going to be before I can really judge it, but I hope that it continues to get better and get closer to living up to my expectations for a show created by Abrams and Jonathan Nolan. |
