It's kind of sad that Terminator 2 gets a crazy sharp restoration, steelbook, the works and the first film gets thrown onto the shelves like some straight to video trash.

Come on it's not only a classic sci-fi but also a classic action movie. It's also got some slasher elements to it. It holds up extremely well to the sequel, and sh*ts all over 3 and 4. For such an icon Arnie's movies haven't been given the treatment they deserve on Blu-Ray.

The artwork on this digi pack is horrible too. How can that be better than this:

As long as everyone keeps buying the old version they'll keep on selling and repackaging it. Then the inevitable new transfer (hoepfully non-DNR'd to death) and double-dip for those that bought it on the first go-round for those that love the movie as I do ......

Ok not restored but it looks awesome.

Except the bit with the stunt people who look nothing like Arnie and Furlong. HD kind of ruined that scene (bike and truck in drain thingy).

Are you talking about the chase scene in the L.A canal? That's a great sequence, one of Cameron's very best I especially love it when Arnie flips his shogun while on the bike.

He's not talking about the scene itself. He's talking about how in HD, the fact you can EASILY SEE that it's NOT Arnold & Furlong in some of the "riskier" action sequences.

Anyway, I just saw this new cover/release & clicked on this thread, & just read ALL 4 pages of posts. What a freakin' joke - NOT a restored/remastered transfer, SAME Audio, nothing really new, except for a Lame-ass cover. PASS.

Also, $23.99?!

there's nothing sharp about Terminator 2 it's an old-ass blurry transfer... both have been treated like trash.

Yeah, it could definitely look better{talking about T2}....
But, I got lucky and snagged it for $8.99(new blu ray, skynet version)... So, no complaints from me on that end.

However, I am anxious to add T1 to my collection, but, not until I see one that apparently will receive a more respectable upgrade in video quality.

I have put off buying Terminator and T2 because surely, better transfers are on the way. They can repackage and reissue all they want...until they give these movies the PQ and AQ they deserve, I'm not biting.

In regards to T2, just import one of the earlier releases (Australian has the best transfer). It looks way different than the SkyNet Edition.

I have zero quarrel with multiple releases or repackagings and I almost never complain about prices but $23.99 for such a terrible transfer is more than a bit of a stretch. Unless there's a twenty dollar bill tucked into that book it borders on fraud.

I've seen every screenshot comparison for every domestic and international release, and while some look better than others (and yes, the 2008 Aussie disc looks decent), none of them look as good as the film is capable of looking if it gets the restoration it deserves. This film was huge, and will always sell like crazy...how can a distributor even argue that it's too much trouble to properly restore it?

No, until they get restored transfers (and they will), count me out.

I have a friend who moved here from Africa and loves movies. I lend him Blu-rays all the time and have been wanting to lend him my Terminator movies and tv shows. I could either pick this up when it comes out or track down the HD DVD, or just wait til the version you all are waiting for next year. Thoughts?

I don't think that's been confirmed yet?

From reading 4 pages of posts, it seems the only reason for this reissue was Fox milking it one last time before (as everyone assumed when it went on the schedule) Sony regained the MGM rights in exchange for funding Bond 23. Now that MGM has instead re-upped with Fox thru 2016, they could do us all a favor by cancelling this and getting back to work on a proper remaster.

Man, this is my all time favorite movie, and I never thought in a million years that I wouldn't buy the next re-release. But I might have to pass on this Digibook or wait for the reviews to see if there are any new extras or a better transfer.

The Lowry digital restoration is done. Van Ling was in the process of creating the special features when MGM pulled the plug.

All that needs to be finished now by Van Ling are the recording sessions for the commentary (if that is even possible now) along with any new extras.

I have been waiting a long time for a definite Blu-ray release of this movie. I would love to see a better video transfer on this May 10th release. They should carry over all bonus features from the previous DVD, VHS releases to here.
