Ugh - yeah, I didn't think of that.

On the plus side though, I would prefer to buy them all at once in one giant set when the show is over (I have most of the seasons on DVD already). I heard that they recently had their show extended for another 3 seasons so by that time HD DVD should be gone

I just can't bring myself to buy a TV series on any disc. Mostly because I got to watch it for free on TV, and can catch the re-runs for some time after. Do I really need to watch it enough times to quote the series verbatim like so many Star (Gate, Trek, Wars) fans? I'm single and can't find that kind of time.

I have recorded some PBS specials I burned to DVD. Even have my share of movies I recorded from TV and burned to DVD. Heck, I have a number of Simpsons, American Dad and Family GUY I burned on DVD. I just feel I'm a fool to buy them. Except for Planet Earth.

I record from my Sony SAT300 Hi-def receiver to my Panasonic DMR-E100. It doesn't record in HD, but the digital pic via s-video makes for the BEST and CLEANEST recordings imaginable. It even records widescreen! Then I trim the beginning and end of fluff, and remove the commercials. Now I can make my own "edited for tv" movie dvd. It is frikken great!

Modes: XP ~ 10 mbit. Similar to Superbit-DVD.
SP ~ 5 Mbit. Pretty much the rate all DVD movies play.

Do the math. Record a 2 hour TV movie in XP (Best mode). After editing you have a 90 minute XP movie. Record to a DVD in FR (flex recording mode). The variable bit rate means your movie is about 6 Mbit. 25% better than the store bought DVD! In the case of PBS specials, they run for an hour so I can burn them in XP mode.

I am buying smallville on blu because the show is awesome and one of my favorites, but I probably wouldn't be buying it if the cw hd cable signal was any good. usually I stay away from the tv shows on disc, as after I watch the them 1 they typically just sit. but the cw has so many problems with audio cutting out on episodes, losing picture then the picture coming back in SD that I am forced to buy the dvd or in this case blu ray. I have to many south park dvd sets, simpsons, futurama, chapelle's show, harvey birdman etc etc. I never watch them since there are reruns on regularly and since there isn't a continuing storyline to follow I don't need to be up to date. but with lost, 4400, smallville, supernatural, and others its fun to rewatch them before the new season starts.

has anyone bought smallville or received shipping confirmation for it yet?

No, I do not agree. I have every episode of Deadwood and Carnivale and am quite happy. I am uncertain if I could be talked into buying either one on blu or not as I already on the SD versions.

I've watched AD twice all the way through.

I'd like to see Alias in HD (HD Jennifer Garner). Veronica Mars would be good too (HD Kristen Bell), and whatever portions of Buffy and Angel are HD (HD Charisma Carpenter). And Dark Angel (HD Jessica Alba). Farscape would be nice too (HD Claudia Black) as long as it wasn't done by the crap company that did the DVD releases. No doubt NBC's Vegas would look pretty spectactular in HD...

Star Trek: TOS in HD is really tempting me to turn to the red side (and buy a Toshiba player so I can get the phaser remote)...but I will resist. Plenty of other things to buy instead.

No, I disagree. Recently I find myself watching TV show more offen than movies. With TV shows you have more time to get to know and watch a character(s) grow vs. a couple movies.

You're going to re-watch movies more often, they're short compare to TV shows.

Of course this comes down to personally taste.

TV show are more expensive? (No not really)

Using Amazon.com prices for this.

Lost Season 3 is price at $67.85 for 991 mins. (Your Cost is $0.0684/min)

Smallville Season 6 is price at $55.95 for 921 mins. (Your cost is $0.0607/ min.)

Live Free or Die Hard is price at $27.95 for 130mins. (Your cost is $0.215/min.)

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is price for $23.95 for 168 mins. (Your cost is $0.1425/min)

Unfortunately, no Still waiting for any sign that S6 is in stock anywhere!

I have to disgree though, on the whole "watching them once, sitting on a shelf" argument that some people have here. I watch an entire series through its whole run once every year on average.

In fact, I've jst finished Smallville s1-5 that I started in June!! But that's Smallville... my favourite show that I watch non-stop anyway lol

I never buy a show that I won't watch ALL the time. Guess that's why I only own Smallville, CSI: Miami, 24, Quantum Leap and Frasier... I've just gotten into Supernatural too, so I guess that's another one!

There's a handful I'd be interested in.
  1. Jerricho
  2. Firefly
  3. Surface
  4. Doctor Who
  5. Eureka
  6. BSG(both)
  7. Stargate SG-1(My God. What would that box set cost)

For anything I'd watch once, I'll just upscale DVDs (like Prison Break). However, for one-off shows like Frasier, Seinfeld, Law and Order, I'd get BLUs.

That said, I'm buying the upcoming full-season boxes (dvd) of Seinfeld and Frasier when they come in October.

The exception (maybe the first of many) will be LOST season 3 when it comes out in DEC.
