Let's not all post at once here!

Okay "Mike Phillips", if that's your real name, why did you take all my criticisms and put them in your review? I said all this from the DEMO!

I went into detail in another post, but Mike agrees.

"All the rides in The Run have a fairly stiff, heavy feel to them, which is hardly ideal for an arcade racer. Speeding through switchbacks or swerving to avoid the police, you'll wish things were a little more nimble and responsive."

Mike says:

"Similarly, it's often unclear which obstacles your car can crash through with no ill effects, and which ones will spell your doom. I've plowed right through some pretty good-sized trees and hardly slowed down, and then been brought to a screeching halt by an unassuming lamppost."

Quote:
-Rewind systems is absolutely stupid. From what I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong), you can't manually rewind like in a Codies game. So what's the point? All it is is a reset function, except you have to re-race like a mile and a half. And it takes 5-7 seconds to load.
Mike?

"Crashing your car or going off road in The Run results in a "rewind," which is not really a rewind in the sense that most racing games use it -- in this case it's the game's name for resetting you to a checkpoint (after watching a loading screen for about ten seconds). Oddly, sometimes the game will call for a rewind when you've barely left the shoulder of the road and are recovering. Other times, you can veer pretty wildly off course without triggering a rewind."

Maybe I'm alone in that feeling, but I don't like driving in a race that feels like I'm just going through the motions that the game has already set for me.
Here's a different review excerpt

Quote:
Part of the problem stems from how scripted the campaign feels. There are cop chases where all your competitors get stopped by roadblocks. Survival races where you just have to not crash. And the final climactic race has multiple sections where it doesn't matter what you do, you get a scripted event. I can blaze ahead of the opponent, but suddenly he's at my side to show a cutscene and push me off the road. If there was an awesome story being told then maybe these would make more sense, but usually it feels like the game is holding your hand.
----------------------------------------------
Jokes aside, I think these were universal problems some saw coming. I'm not saying the game is awful, but it certainly seems like there are some big enough flaws to bring it down a few notches. I was thinking about picking it up for $30 next week, not even sure about that now. I'm still open to it, but less so. Did anyone actually dish out $60 today and buy it? I know Xerios did.

This is my first owned Need For Speed game. I've played them in the past but never bought them (because I worked at Blockbuster so I got free rentals!) Played the game for a bit last night, I enjoy it so far. The courses are pretty difficult, lots of winding roads in the mountains, but it's enjoyable! If you're waiting to buy it, it's still listed at 44.99 at Toys R Us.com (as of last night). I'd say it's worth $45....if you wanna wait, the $30 Black Friday deal is a good deal as well

The only main complain I have are the pretty long load times. The only other thing I'm indifferent on is the fact that you can't get through ranks quicker than what's on the course. For example, you need to get from 200-190 in a level. I passed all the other cars and was really far ahead of the other cars and expected to be able to get into the 180's but that didn't happen. Again, I don't mind that, but I expected to be able to do that. I also agree with the review in regards to not knowing what you can crash through and what's going to total your car.

After reading a few reviews, $30 is a price point I'm comfortable with (for the LE). I don't expect a sell-out on BF at Best Buy (if last year's sale of Hot Pursuit was an indicator of consumer interest, and that was rated higher by the critics).

If anyone has a Carbon Challenge Series Code (the code you got from origin.com for preordering) I'd be happy to take it if you don't want it!

GLITCH ALERT!

Game: Need for Speed: The Run

Glitch: Beat the game on Easy, or any difficulty other than extreme. Play only the last chapter on extreme to unlock the beat the game on extreme difficulty trophy. from what ive read Extreme is cruel even for the most experienced driving gamers, so use it wisely

Good to know. Looks like the patch that was released last week does not address/affect this glitch.

When players go off track, they will be reset back onto the track (similar to the reset behavior in online multiplayer races) instead of at the last checkpoint. Crashes will still result in a reset to the last checkpoint.

We’ve modified the reset behavior for a number of tracks in The Run where resets seemed too close to the main race route. This should reduce some frustration for players where they’ve suddenly been reset by just barely going off course.
thats good... i broke through the barrier and chose to go right around the unbreakable pole into some corn stalks SLIGHTLY, reset me... now i can hopefully shave time off
