I've had many movies based on true events that have been a little on the sad side and had scenes that were hard to watch. Titanic is one of those. I always find it hard to watch the part when the ship breaks in two (though I do anyway) for example.
![]() Flight 93 was on television on Saturday, but since I either didn't know it was on that day or I was too busy playing my PSP Lego Pirates of the Caribbean video game, I didn't manage to catch it. The only movie about 9/11 that I did manage to catch on the anniversary was the 2006 Oliver Stone movie, World Trade Center (which was on at 12:30 in the morning in my neck of the woods). First Oliver Stone movie I've watched in my life. Since I missed the first half-hour, I'll have to see it again in order to voice an opinion on it, but what I saw of it, I thought it was rather good and quite moving. Maybe I'll order both movies along with the pre-order for On Stranger Tides (which I'll be able to order no later than the beginning of next month). ![]() Last edited by Lady Sparrow; 09-14-2011 at 08:42 PM. |

Certainly the best 9/11 film as Stone's is laughably bad. Terrible movie from top to bottom: acting/production/writing and direction. A grave subject turned into an extended soap pilot. |

I watched this again last night with the audio commentary by Paul Greengrass. He mentions that he shot an alternate opening which began in Afghanistan. It consisted of a meeting between Osama Bin Laden and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
It's supposed to open with shots of an impoverished Afghanistan with a convoy of vehicles heading towards Al Qaeda's Al-Mattar complex. You see Khalid Sheikh Mohammed carrying a brief case with plans and you follow him in to the fort, followed by a glimpse of a tall man (you would know who that man was although you don't see close up). He goes on to say that it was shot in Morocco, however during editing he felt the scene was redundant. He also mentions that he got the opening scene's idea from the 9/11 report which states that Bin Laden and Sheikh Mohammed held a series of meetings at the Al-Mattar fort. I wondered if any stills/video exists of this deleted opening? Perhaps it may turn up on a special edition sometime in the future? |
