I got lucky on the phone and found a Walmart about 30 minutes away who had one copy ONLY. They were nice enough to hold it for me until I got there. So I'm a happy camper. I always loved this movie, although I never had it on DVD. From what someone mentioned earlier in the thread, it sounds like it has a good transfer considering it's only 10 bucks. These things can be so hit and miss, although I found Quigly Down Under and City Slickers to be far better then I thought they were going to be. Real upgrades over the DVD for sure. I look forward to watching this a little later.

Its definitely not 2.35... I just compared a 2.35 release to this and it looks like it is indeed 2.55

found 2 copies at the closest store to me.
very psyched, although the cover is atrocious.
do they even pay people to do artwork anymore?
so many classic bds have artwork that looks like a 15 year old intern did it on his ipad while he was taking a dump.

I don't remember the print being that wide at 2.76 - was the 70mm prints reframmed to the more common 2.20 aspect ratio?
No, the 70mm print made was an Ultra-Panavision 70 print (standard 2.20 70mm print with an added 1.25 squeeze to it - actually added at the time of shooting and a part of the negative). For this reason an original UP70 lens was sent out on bookings that attached to the theatre's prime lens for 70mm. However, if the theatre used their normal 70mm lens as the prime, it would mean the image would keep the same top and bottom size, meaning the theatre would have to crop the sides once they ran out of screen width. In order to show the entire 2.76 image (as they did at the L.A. showing at the Dome and I believe at the subsequent showings at the American Cinemateche), gthe theatre would have to get another prime lens that projected a smaller image on the screen.

Robert Harris has posted on Home Theater Forum a chronology of the edits made ton IAMMMMW. I think it pretty much demonstrates that this is actually the roadshow version that most people saw (minus the Entracte - and those Intermission calls were eliminated early on from other sources I read around the same time). You'll need to scroll down about two thirds.

Exactly. What's on the disc is the same as the roadshow version which I saw (apart from the missing Entr'acte of course). I've been trying to make this point myself but people have continued to refer to it as the general release version.

Does anyone know how long Wal Mart has an exclusive on discs like IAMMMMW? The crappy Wal Mart's we have in Canada don't stock them, and have no intention of bringing them in. You can't order them online from Wal Mart because they don't ship to Canada. Thanks, Wal Mart!

Instead the disc stops and reverts to the players normal screen. The 2 trailers play fine. Is this because the extras are coded region A - in which case the disc is NOT A and B as mentioned - or could the disc be faulty? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Those two extras would be in "NTSC" (480/60Hz). The other two extras that play are HD. Can you play other 480/60Hz material on other BDs?

One of the cut scenes from the film is Spencer Tracy phoning Keaton.

Thanks.
The It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Blu-ray Review describes what's on the disc extras. Seems to me to be the same listings as in side B of my NTSC DVD.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting. This is the first BRD imported from the US. Only because of the report that it was region A+B OK. So I've no experience of playing 480/60Hz material here. There's nothing lost of course as I just keep my region 1 flipper DVD for the 2 extras. I've gained everything as the picture quality on the new BRD is better than I'd hoped for. Maybe a RegionB disc will emerge here in the UK - and there's always 2013....!

Well that's good news! I doubt it'll be different from the Walmart release, but you never know!

For $14.00 you can count on it being identical. The WalMart UPC was just a stick-on; when you peeled that off the MGM/Fox code was printed on the actual back cover.

I'm glad they're getting it out there though LimeiBook86. This transfer of IAMMMMW is full width 2.76:1 Ultra Panavision scanned at 8k...simply spectacular, and among the best I've seen, this or any other year.

With such heady disc specs this Blu-ray didn't last long on Wal-Mart shelves. So whatever stock MGM/Fox does have left from that 'testing-the-waters' run will likely get snapped up pretty fast.
