Well, the DVD actually went out of print a while back. You'll still see some inflated DVD prices on Amazon. That's why I never picked up the DVD. Plus, it has been airing on HDTV for a little while now, so I never felt the urge to buy it.
This past summer I was trying to explain this movie to a girl who claimed to be a fan of the "Coreys" but never saw it. She saw Lost Boys, Dream a Little Dream, and some of their other (less than popular) films, but she never saw License to Drive; never even heard of it! and I was like what!? and she was like yeah! and I was like no! and she was like really! and I was like you suck! and she was like whatever.
License to Drive; not considered their best when compared to Lost Boys or Dream a Little Dream, but very very fun - especially for people who were fortunate enough to have grown up in the 80's.
I'm definitely in for a copy.

Or me, which is why i watched this the other day... aside from the fact that until the other day, i've never seen it in its entirety.

I have put this on numerous wish list (also DVD or laserdisk wishlist). I even sent in a request to studios by email in hopes for this one to be released on blu-ray.

Too bad, I just bought the Australian DVD last year. But this film is so good that I'll get the BD anyway.

Does anyone consider Dream a Little Dream to be superior to License to Drive? Lost Boys sure, but i always thought Dream a Little Dream was a trainwreck, even when i was 13 and a fan of the Corey's.

Yeah, I wonder that, too. I'm surprised to see anyone hold "Dream a Little Dream" in ANY regard. Back then, I remember loving "License to Drive" (I am not as enthusiastic about it today, but I don't find it bad). I would consider myself a fan of Haim and somewhat of Feldman, although I was at the point where I was finding him annoying. I thought "Dream a Little Dream" was a trainwreck, too. And when I was younger, I just LOVED movies... almost ANY movie. Movies I disliked were few and far between. But, "Dream a Little Dream" was one of them. Not that I can remember much about it to say WHAT I didn't like about it.

I actually recently rewatched Dream a Little Dream...was the first time i'd seen it since its initial release.

Its a horribly made movie, shockingly bad production value for what on paper should have been a legit Theatrical release. On its own the soundtrack was probably pretty good for its day, but i felt like it was kind of tagged onto the movie as an afterthought.

License to Drive has always been a fun movie...sure it doesn't quite hold up as well as it did when i was a young teenager, but then again i'd never expect it to.

For me as well...I thought it was "ok" when I originally saw it, and I thought even less of it when I saw it at a friend's house after he'd bought the DVD. Glad to see this one getting an HD release, since it's a cult-favorite, but it's not one I'll be buying, even from the bargain bin.

Yeah, and also, she looks older than 21 in the photo.

I should've known I was going to get burned by trading in my old DVD after ordering the Blu-Ray. Why I didn't wait one more day to verify, I'll never know. Despite what Anchor Bay's site says, they dropped the DVD supplements for this Blu-Ray release. No commentary. That 15 minute alternate/deleted sequence? Gone. The interviews with the Coreys? Gone. TV promos? History.

All that's here is one trailer and a 7 minute "Making of License to Drive" EPK thing that, oddly enough, wasn't on the original DVD.

I'm glad I still have my old Anchor Bay dvd!

Maybe they did'nt add the interviews because of Haim's death, I really don't know for sure

I'm guessing the only reason they didn't retain the old extras is $$$. No great loss for me, since I've had the DVD for ~5 years and never watched 'em.

Edit: Just checked Amazon, and it looks like the DVD is back in print for $6.99. Now come on, Anchor Bay is just gettin' lazy...

The biggest losses are the alternate sequence and the commentary.

I wonder if the new DVD has the special features. I saw it's a different SKU, which means I should get the one I traded in back (I sent it in via Amazon). I traded it under the new SKU, so they should sent it back. Hopefully...

Darn it I sold off my old DVD copy, can't believe they didn't want to pay more to include the commentary track and the deleted scenes etc.
