Surprised they still have that version in stock ^ considering its OOP (i think) . Thought the new slip version would have been sent out by now.

I don't think the steelbook looks bad at all. Interesting choice.

All of the other Play.com Universal steels have had the same discs so no, it won't. The only thing special about the release is the packaging.

Folks who watched Jaws recently in Cinemas aren't happy with the transfer either.

Universal and Catalog titles doesn't go hand in hand.

You can't win. You'll always get people who aren't happy with anything or everything.

I've heard rave reviews about the transfer. From people who love Jaws and have seen it hundreds of times. I haven't seen the whole film (will be doing so next week) but the bits I've seen (I work in a cinema) have been fantastic.

Some people just like to be the first to decry things. And some people see faults that aren't there, especially with transfers because they go in ready to judge and so find what they want to see.

Jaws should be good. Its a 1977 film and I have many older films that have great transfers. What you have to remember is that the film is shot at sea on small boats most of the time which could have forced inferior camera technology making it.

Just like Predator really. Out in the jungle where huge cameras can't go and dodgy film stock.

Yeah I think the artwork Play.com has up now for The Thing is just the generic poster. I can't be certain, but usually final artwork will be in the form of the SB itself. So unless I'm mistaken this artwork has not been revealed yet?

I don't get how the hell people can complain about the transfer when the equipment used to display it isn't exactly an objective test. People that review these professionally do so on average using calibrated equipment and give a reliable opinion. Just wait till somebody does that

It was up briefly a month or so ago and it was awful, horizontal (as expected) 'The Thing' in large letters with green twisted/contorted conjoined heads, I think it got a lot of negative feedback and was quickly taken down, I did read somewhere that Play were trying to convince the studio to go with another design but the studio were reluctant to change it. If the artwork stays the same I can see this being the one in the wave that sells very poorly, shame as its one of the better films in the wave, I suppose every set has to have at least one black sheep, but at least its better than 'Das Ding'

Ugggh! I saw that image several posts ago! No way, that looks horrible. I hope they change it up, or else I will be holding off on it.

I wouldnt be surprised if Universal were told to redo the artwork on this one. While it was different and unique (which was a good thing) it was just plain ugly as hell. Hopefully know they dont throw a strop and just give us plain generic artwork, like the current Blu Ray version.s

I saw that horrible cover on vudu one day browsing around the movies. It seriously looked like a 5 year old made it

Heads up everyone, looks like play is in the middle of uploading the artwork for The Thing. At the moment it looks like the back artwork only

Looks much better. Never did understand the significance of it related to the film though.

Play.com has uploaded the new artwork and I'm having a hard time liking it, for me it doesn't suit the film. Especially that green color, or does it somehow nod to the original "The Thing from Another World"?

Would rather have the classic design that's on the back.
