You're not kidding. This and the Ultimate Battle Royale on the same day alone hurts. I feel for our friends in Canada that will need to hold off on this due to it's Best Buy exclusivity.

That was indeed great as well.

I haven't seen this movie in a while and am really excited to see it again on Blu-ray. IMO, this was superior to Ringu in every way. I didn't find the original remotely scary. If I remember correctly a majority of the film took place in brood daylight. There was no creepy atmosphere.

+1

I watched the original after seeing the remake & found it to be inferior to the remake. I understand that the budget may have been far less, but it just wasn't anywhere near as scary as the US remake

I get so annoyed with these bullsh1t Best Buy Exclusives studio deals.
Guess I get to wait even longer until it hits mass distribution.

Love the movie!

If you're in the US why would this be a problem? I'm sure there are plenty of Best Buys in your area

Is it the price? Because you live in California, there are Best Buy stores everywhere.

Does this mean that no where online will have it? Amazon etc? Sorry I live in the UK and was perhaps thinking of importing it? (unless there is a UK version due out also?)

No, hence "Best Buy Exclusive". It will be a general release along the line this year as Ringu, Ringu 2 are being released in Japan. We should expect a general release of the 2003 remake in the US from Paramount mid September/October.

I loved this in the cinema as well, but like others above, it gave me the willies for weeks after and I still can't watch it all the way through when it's been on TV here in the UK.

All I can say is I might buy it and thank God it wasn't in 3D then or now, as I think I might have become another of her victims!

I think Ringu is creepy on it's own way, but that's a very personal thing so whatever What I love the most about these two movies, is how different they are. The same story, mostly the same scenes and even dialogue, but they're totally opposite from each other. It was the first and last remake of Japanese horror that was very faithful to the source material, and creative at the same time.

Hate Best Buy and do not wish to give them my money anymore. Nothing too deep, just too many bad experiences.

I thought Ring(u) worked better with my Australian Madman blue tinted version than the Tartan U.S. version which has more earthy and gray tones. While I believe The Ring is better than Ringu, both are excellent, the scores for both are phenomenal while being quite different (Ringu having a sparser ambient influenced score). I thing Ringu does a few scenes better than The Ring; but the place where The Ring excels is the story which is more ambiguous and explains less than Ringu which has a more fleshed out psychic background for Sadako.

Good lord, The Ring in 3D? Thank you, you've now ascertained that my nightmare can, in fact, become reality. x______x

...Still want this blu, though.

Have you seen the original Thai version of Shutter? That sh** was the scariest movie I've ever seen. I haven't seen the American remake, but I've heard it was creepy enough (though why it had to be set in Tokyo is beyond me).

This is awesome news

I have a feeling the studio is gearing up for the long awaited 3rd film in the American films. I bet it will be in 3D just like the upcoming Ringu sequel

Good idea. They should do a 3D big screen re-release .

I would certainly see a third film but after the second I'd be way less excited for one. It does have potential though. And they'd have to upgrade the killer video to a DVD .

So this means I still have to bear until almost the end of this year to finally be able to enjoy this release?
T__T Not only that, I'm region B so if it isn't region free, I'm pretty much F*****.

+1 for the original Shutter. Just saw it recently and thought it was scary as hell.

Imagine Samara coming out of the TV in 3D!
