The picture is definitely DNR'd. Clearly the reviewer is blind.

Looking at the insert it even says I should go to http://www.universalhidef.com/digita...3-622f7bfb4293 to begin the redeeming process.
I just downloaded my DC of Parenthood and it went fine, correct movie also! I usually go directly to iTunes and start the process instead of going to the website on the insert. Just e-mail them and they should give you a new code for the correct movie....

Oh gosh! Not again! Damn you, Universal!!! You are the worst studio EVER!!!!!!!

The mostly seem to have blind reviewers on here lately when it comes to Universal titles- Three Amigos, and now this!

I hope you guys are wrong, and it's actually watchable!

What he said. Grain is nowhere to be found in the screen shots and detail expectantly takes a nosedive. Granted, it's a an older film and the film stock from the 80s was never the best. But still, over-zealous DNR is always a bad thing.

Still praying that Jaws and E.T. will look decent. I'd be happy if they looked like the Out of Africa caps I'm seeing.

I just watched this last night. It looked fine to me, although I was watching on a 32' TV. I never owned this on DVD, so I don't really have anything to compare it to. I just remember that the DVD release was either full-screen or non-anamorphic, so I just wanted a decent widescreen version.

Well this one definitely looks better than Planes, Trains. People are going to think I'm crazy, but since I didn't want the slipcover, I just removed it before buying.

The reviewer gave a 4 in regards to video quality. An obvious error of judgement.

Another recent Universal title, Out of Africa got the same score. A transfer, that is newly minted, that has adequate detail and had other issues taken care off by newly mastering it.
The said reviews stem from different authors, but since they both landed up here on blu-ray.com, i have to point out this inconsistency in ratings.

If the policy is that "don't judge too hard, it would mislead customers" than the same thing has happened here by giving out a high mark so easily, for another butchered title, sourced from a decade old master.

Perhaps the reviewer was basing his score on the film in motion, not frame by frame

Why are you assuming that i judged only from the screens? I have two different setups at home plus my work PC, which has an excellent color calibrated display. I regularly check all my Blu-ray discs on the above mentioned devices. The only thing you can throw at me is the lack of a projector. But in this case, the screen grabs could tell you as much as you would need to know if you are sensitive to these matters. And it does not look better in motion. You'll get used to the lack of detail after a while, but that does not mean that the product is 4/5.

Watched and received this yesterday.
I can actually live with this. probably because I expected it to be even worse.

I think this one is quite watchable, especially compared to Three Amigos, which is very smeary, and that is what drives me nuts the most!

Clearly, this transfer is DNR'd and processed to a large degree, and it doesn't look all that filmic, but at least it's not Three Amigo bad, and relatively easy on the eyes.

I just wished Universal got their act together.
The lack of menu is just STUPID!!!!!

Love this movie! It is very complex, and all the characters are interesting to me.

Can't wait to watch it again soon!

Recent interviews with some of the kids from the movie (Alisan Porter, Jasen Fisher, Ivyann Schwan and Zachary LaVoy):

I was able to pick this up for $4.99 at Best Buy w/upgrade and save a few days ago. One of my childhood favorites from the 80's. When Thom Hulce shows up with his kid named Cool, that gets me everytime. Great performance by Hulce too as well as the entire cast (even Keanu). One of the great ensembles of the decade.

I can't wait to watch this this weekend. Even if the PQ is supposedly "DNR'd" for $5 I'm not complaining and I'm sure it's probably no worse than what I've seen from other titles.

Great movie. So glad it's made it to blu.
