right. he knew how to use something but was never the top innovator people think he was. mp3 were not his creation but the ipod was out there and using them long before anyone else knew how. Apple is able to get the consumer hooked on thier products, push them like no one else and set the standard for others to meet. people still think of Apple as that little underdog company, not as the world wide power that it is. if that doesn't show how he was able to sell people on his products, nothing will.

as for the movie, can't watch it as Kutcher is on my don't watch list. sorry but i just can't take him seriously.

Control was not one of them, and Sam Riley was praised for his portrayal of Ian.

EDIT: So was Samantha Morton for her portrayal of Ian's wife.

2nd EDIT: I'm most likely going to see jOBS when I see the BD in the store.

I'll stick with "The Pirates of Silicon Valley" which was a made for TV film starring Noah Wyle as Steve Jobs. Sounds like it covers everything that is in this new film and in more detail. Anything is better than watching Ashton Kutcher.

about as overblown as the real guy

he was good at popularizing gadgets for mainstream, most of his own inventions failed miserably

Unfortunately I believe most people do not know the real story so we are unable to see how much of this story was "inspired". As far as an entertaining movie...looks pretty good. I just had a hard time thinking Kelso is Steve Jobs.

I like the Steve Jobs story (I read the bio) and this looks like it could be really, really good. The trailer got me a lot more excited about seeing the film then the short clip they provided before. Looking forward to see this!

I'm a self-admitted Apple fanboy.

But, Gad and Kutcher? Those two will actually keep me out of theaters. I'll catch it on HBO or the like when it makes it there.

Subject matter aside, I just don't think Kutcher has the emotional depth for the type of movie this is trying to be.

Regarding emotional depth, didn't Cameron Crowe boot Kutcher from Elizabethtown because he wasn't a very good actor? And then he replaced him with... Orlando Bloom?

I agree. It just seems like Ashton Kutcher is playing dress up and just saying lines. The trailer seems to unconvincing to me to even want to see this movie. It would be ridiculous if this becomes Oscar Bait.

I don't remember there being any emotion to the characters in that movie

I'm sure they wanted the role of Jobs to be Oscar bait, but then they choose Kutcher to play it....yikes! They were probably hoping for a surprise with him, because it would get more talking than just having any Oscar nominated type of actor to play the role.

My sentiment exactly, I really liked that movie and it gave me a new respect for Jesse Eisenbergs acting, he really did a good job in that role IMO.

It's often overwrought and has a weird fetishization of Apple that it doesn't need but I found this to be overall pretty competent. It's a solid retelling of Walter Isaacson's (mediocre) rushed biography and Kutcher gives as good a performance as I think one could this close to the man's life. It has a messy, overly reverent ending but it consistently had me engaged and for a lengthy film I was with it the entire time. Much more of a success than I was predicting.

Who would be interested in seeing a biopic about Steve Jobs. His life couldn't have been that interesting and controversial enough, to make a theatrical movie about him. All I know about the man is that he's the inventor of Apple. Anything else about Steve Jobs, I have no interests in knowing.

Ya. Who cares about learning more about the man whoead a technological revolution in which we find ourselves immersed in at this very time.

The man changes the fundamental way in which our world uses electronics and you don't care anything about his motivations, inspirations, challenges, etc? I'm guessing that you didn't care anything about The Social Network either?
