Hmm. Not only did Roger Ebert like it, he even had some positive things to say about its 3d.

Note The amazon pre-order included a coupon for up to $10 off one ticket. I think for the early customers. I think its no loonger available.

There seems to be some inconsistency in the 3D experience. I wasn't blown away by Avatar, but Prometheus really impressed me. It was one of the top two 3D experiences I've had so far, which was somewhat surprising considering the darker nature of the film. And I only saw it in RealD; Imax 3D tends be brighter and even more pronounced.

As for the film: I really hope it does well enough for Scott to finish it. It was good, very good if you're already very familiar with Alien; but hopefully the inevitable director's cut - as everything Ridley Scott does gets a DC - will connect more of the dots. As is, it plays like a prequel to a much grander story yet to be told, a story with more substance than that offered by the Alien franchise. Alien banked so heavily on horror, that you didn't really care about the why or how; that was part of the mystery that made the horror more effective. Prometheus isn't straight horror, it seems to have much bigger ambitions that were stifled by a commercial need to tie the story to the Alien franchise, which was great that they did, but ultimately leaves you with more questions than answers, begging for another film.

I agree with the poster above, I went to a midnight IMAX 3D premiere and the 3D blew me away! Definitely made me reconsider buying a 3D tv..... lol

Just came back from seeing it and I gotta say, probably the best film I've seen this year. An intriguing and very engaging Alien prequel film. Would love to see more of this story until we get to the part we glimpsed at in Alien. Don't expect an action-packed film a la Aliens and you won't be disappointed; this is more along the lines of Alien, more cerebral than action-driven. Stunning to look at and well directed by Sir Ridley. I'm still thinking about it and am looking forward to seeing it again come Oct. 9th on Blu-ray. I have a feeling it will get better with every viewing

I saw this once a week before it was released at a press screening and saw it for the second time today. I really highly enjoyed this one, both times I saw it. Very captivating and thrilling. Most of the negative reviews I've been reading are ridiculous. Why would somebody be upset that this isn't a rehash of the original and actually is its own film?

This is definitely the film many of us horror/science fiction fans have been waiting for. Something that's thrilling, exciting, and filled with tension. I'll definitely be buying this day 1! The only scene that bothers me is
[Show spoiler] when the two men who are stuck in the ship during the storm come across the creature and actually approach it.
Other than that, this is one I'll gladly be adding to my collection.

Default PROMETHEUS Blu-ray Will Have 20 to 30 Min of Deleted Scenes

I have no idea if this has been mentioned in the thread already, but...

Quote:
You’re going to do an extended cut on the Blu-ray/DVD. Is it a lot longer?

SCOTT: Twenty minutes.

So there’s, like, twenty minutes that will be added back in for a longer version?

SCOTT: Maybe. But I’m so happy with this engine, the way it is right now. I think it’s fine. I think it works. It can go in a section where, if you really want to tap in, look at the menu. To see how things are long, and it’s too long. Dramatically, I’m about putting bums on seats. For me to separate my idea of commerce from art—I’d be a fool. You can’t do that. I wouldn’t be allowed to do the films I do. So I’m very user friendly as far as the studios are concerned. To a certain extent, I’m a businessman. I’m aware that’s what I have to do. It’s my job. To say, “Screw the audience.” You can’t do that. “Am I communicating?” is the question. Am I communicating? Because if I’m not, I need to address it.

Very well put. Couldn't agree more.

PS - anyone have box office figures for the weekend? I suppose I could google it, but really don't know what sources to "trust" with their numbers.

EDIT - Nevermind. Looks like it earned an estimated $50M in the US. $91.5M Foreign box office = a total of $141.5M. Didn't see what the budget was in either of the links I saw, but my guess would be $80M to make. So this should turn out to be a profitable film (to the studios) once all is said and done.

If you've seen The Fifth Element, the white getup she gets put into is exactly like one of the getups that the primary female character gets put into and is the most skin you'll see in the film. It's essentially a bikini.

It's not overtly gory, but some scenes do have a high squirm factor. Scott, as usual, aims to be disturbing more so than graphic.

With all due respect, I think Ridley should've had more respect for the intellect of the audience and worked on the script more. Too many stupid things happen. It was amazing visually, but it could've been so much better without all the plot holes and illogical character actions.

Really? im surprised it cost $125M. i thought it would be near $200M. Movies like Snow White and Dark Shadows cost more.

I rarely see a movie twice in theaters, in fact I think the last one I did saw more than once was Revenge of the Sith, but I'm pretty sure I'll be going to the theater again to see this, I might even IMAX it. I'd recommend it for anyone a fan of sci-fi, especially considering it feels we haven't got much space-based sci-fi in the last few years.

This was my most anticipated movie of 2012. Even more than The Dark Knight Rises. I loved it from start till end. Can't wait for Blu-ray.
