The title for this thread should be updated, since the name of the series was announced some time ago (S.H.I.E.L.D.)

This week ABC entertainment president Paul Lee let slip this bit of info about S.H.I.E.L.D.:

Quote:
“There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York."
and

Quote:
"This is S.H.I.E.L.D. They’re following their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly comes from Avengers. So it’s part of the world, but we’re going to be very, very careful that we don’t tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world. And that’s what Joss Whedon does better than anybody else. He’s built a world for us."

Filming of the series pilot has started. They've also launched social network accounts and some set pictures.

Quote:
Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. series pilot has officially started filming today and the first images and bits of news are already starting to leak out. Though the series has yet to be ordered to anything beyond the pilot, ABC’s executives are optimistic that the show will become the small-screen version of Marvel’s theatrical success. In addition to production beginning behind-the-scenes, S.H.I.E.L.D. has also launched a variety of social networking accounts that will allow fans to follow along with the show’s progress.

Starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Tain De Caestecker and Brett Dalton, the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot should air on ABC this fall. Hit the jump for more.

News on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s production comes via EW, where we also get these frustratingly worthless first shots from behind-the-scenes. We’ve got a silhouette of Whedon starring at a closed elevator, a truck with the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem and a shot of co-writer Jed Whedon’s chair for some reason.

Pretty useless, no? But luckily the S.H.I.E.L.D. team has a new Facebook page and Twitter account that are both up and running. Speaking of Twitter, you should also consider following Marvel’s Ryan Penagos (@AgentM) who happens to be on set for the filming of the pilot:

Ryan Penagos ‏@AgentM

“I’ve had situations that have been borderline weird.” – overhead on the set of @Marvel‘s #SHIELD

Things are on fire. So much fire. So much smoke. #SHIELD

Just watched one of @Acura_Insider‘s #SHIELD MDX SUVs roll onto the set. No one will mind if I drive it home, right? Badass ride!

Chatted a bit with @JoeQuesada, @Marvel‘s Chief Creative Officer, who’s also on the #SHIELD set.

“We don’t get to go again, Bob…” Quotes from the SHIELD set.

Awesome. I figured with 'How I met Your Mother' ending next year, there was a chance.

I so can't wait for this show. Agent Coulson and now possibly Agent Hill to be involved? Awesome! Says people are speculating other Marvel characters may make appearances if the show gets picked up. That would be cool if it were to happen. Keeping the main focus on the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents but with cameos or guest star appearances from the big guys. Can easily see this making my Top 5 shows of all time if done properly.

They've also said they might take the chance to introduce new heroes in it as well, which would be awesome. So not only players already like Iron Man, Cap, Hulk, and Thor, but the likes of Luke Cage and others could appear.

And it's a wrap!!!!!!!

Quote:
In late January, we reported that filming had begun on the pilot for Marvel’s TV series, S.H.I.E.L.D. Production on the pilot has now wrapped according to co-executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen who is co-showrunning with her husband Jed Whedon. Joss Whedon co-wrote and directed the pilot, and I’m not surprised that filming has already wrapped since TV tends to shoot quickly. Although ABC hasn’t officially picked up the series, I would be shocked if it didn’t get an order for at least 13 episodes. There’s too much talent behind the camera, and too large of a built-in audience. If The Walking Dead can pull in 13.2 million viewers, imagine what a Marvel series could do.

Hit the jump to check out Tancharoen’s tweeted image of the wrapped production. S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Tain De Caestecker, and Brett Dalton.

So we all know Clark Gregg is going to reprise his role as Agent Coulson in the new series, but questions remained concerning in what capacity Agent Coulson would exist. Would this be a prequel series? Would Coulson be a LMD?

Joss Whedon shines a little light on the subject:

Quote:
“I can’t talk about it,” [Whedon] admitted, but said that he did bring Coulson back from the dead for the ABC drama. “Yes. For realsies.”
Source

So he's not a robot. He's back from the dead. That's something. And that also means he could show up in Avengers 2 even if this goes to series.

That's ratings gold even if they show up once in a blue moon!

Two plausible/popular rumors I read that would be fine with me:

[Show spoiler]Life model decoy... or Coulson becomes the Vision, they save him by cyborging his brain into an android body.

J August Richards has been added to the cast.

Quote:
A Whedonverse vet has stealthily invaded Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D.

ABC declined to comment, but sources confirm to TVLine that Joss Whedon — who is shepherding ABC’s Avengers-themed drama — has cast his former Angel charge J. August Richards in a super top-secret role.

The pilot — which wrapped filming in February and is being fast-tracked by ABC — stars ER alum Ming-Na (as former soldier Melinda May), Clark Gregg (reprising his big-screen Avengers role as Agent Phil Coulson), Nashville’s Chloe Bennet (playing superhero culture-obsessed Skye), British beauty Elizabeth Henstridge (science expert Gemma Simmons), Scotsman Iain De Caestecker (tech whiz Leo Fitz) and Brett Dalton (rising star Agent Grant).

Whedon previously told TVLine that he wasn’t going out of his way to stack the S.H.I.E.L.D. deck with familiar faces from his past series.

“You look for the best person for the role, and if that person is someone you already know, then great. That’s some work done for you,” he said. “But as much as I would love to — and once did — make a movie just with my friends, you always want to increase the family.”

News of Richard’s casting was first reported by ShieldTV.net.

You know... it occurs to me that I don't know if we have been told just when this series will be set... IF any part of it takes place in the past, what if Richards was cast as a young Nick Fury?

It's set after The Avengers. I suppose though, no one can possibly know for certain that there won't be flashbacks or time travel or something
