But surely they can watch DVDs? DVDs have been around for a long time by now, even in India. Here in the US DVDs and basic DVD players have been dirt cheap for years. Is that not the case in India?

For newer movies, VCD's are half as cheap as DVD's and there are people for whom the difference between 100-150 rupees (for VCD) and 200-300 rupees (for DVD) is significant.

VCD is INR 45/75 and DVD is 125+, people prefer to spend 45/75 on VCDs, its still better because there are certain set of people who still keep downloading the movies and watch it for free

It's final output SS. Source is not linear DPX.
