Obviously, it makes no sense whatsoever to say something like "If this movie had been released before Arnolds you haters would be all over it". How could it possibly have come out before, when infact it's a remake of a movie that was released 22 years ago? It's such an absurd thought. Without Total Recall '90, the remake wouldn't even exist.

Dude the point is quite clear. Many people who dislike the remake, do so becuase they are comparing it to the orignal. That is they refuse to see past it and put it on some pedestal. As ive already stated i watched the orignal the night before seeing the remake and i enjoyed the remake more.

Hey, that's fine if you like one more than the other. But asking people to completely ignore the original, when we're talking about a remake--that's just absurd. You can't say it stands on its own, since it lifted almost all of its plot from the '90 version. Like I said, the remake would not exist if Total Recall 1990 didn't happen.

Even if we could somehow imagine TR'90 never happened, would that magically make TR'12 a less generic sci-fi/action movie?

LOL, I love that someone was accused of trolling by posting a positive comment about the new film in the thread dedicated to the new film.

I, for one, saw the new film without having seen the old one - and, therefore, didn't have anything to compare it to. I loved it - and still do, even after having seen the original now (which I personally didn't like as much).

As you are beginning to realize, some posters' brains are so fried, pointing out their own jumbled thought processes to them will only confuse them further.

As far as more specific complaints, it's pretty obvious that Jessica Biel was the only actor on set trying. Farrell either can't act, or was sleepwalking through the entire production.

Between her botox sessions and bouts of anorexia, Beckinsale simply finds it impossible to emote.

On top of that the script is an extremely dull, unimaginative, only slightly reworked version of the original. The central premise of a high speed shuttle through the earth's core is both pointless and implausible.

The characters are paper thin, so the quality of acting is not really relevant anyway. It's a big budget CGI film, but even then the sfx are spotty at times.

This is an incredibly dumbed down version of total recall.

Can't blame my love of the original on me disliking this one. I didn't even get into the original until the last year. And on top of that, I like Len Wiseman and the cast (love the Underworld series and Die Hard 4), and was quite excited for this movie during the marketing. Even the negative reviews didn't deter me. I wanted to like this movie. I actually walked out of the theater slighly pissed at my disappointment.

In the end, I didn't hate it, but felt it had NO personality at all. It was just incredibly bland. I still want to see it again at least to marvel at those gorgeous CG citiscapes again. This movie has the futuristic city look that I've always dreamt in my mind. So kudos for that. But there's no need for people to get up in arms about others liking, or disliking this film. Who gives a **** what someone else thinks about something you like, or dislike?

So as promised by the the director, it looks like we are getting an extended cut (22 additional minutes)

I'm sure the US release specs will be updated soon

I'm glad they came through with that one. Now I feel compelled to get it, even though I didn't love it. That totally depends on what the reviews say about the new footage.

Great news! Hopefully, we'll see Ethan Hawke's cameo now.

Also, I hope this means we'll be getting that "Director's Cut" of Underworld: Awakening after all.

You do know that both movies are adaptations of a book/short story, right? Without the Arnold movie, this one would still exist.

Probably not. Can you imagine Sony greenlighting a movie called "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale"? Like I said, the Total Recall remake takes 95% of its plot from the original. The original was a loose adaptation, as the short story itself couldn't be made into a 100 minute movie.
