Of course there will be an extended cut of each film, but not for it's initial Blu-ray/DVD release in mid 2013.

The extra footage always adds something special to the movie.

"Warner Bros has now issued a statement (via TheOneRing.net) following the spread of this news that unconfirms an Extended Edition. Here's what they've released: "In the recently distributed calendar included in the Warner Bros. 90th Anniversary press kit, there was an erroneous mention of an Extended Edition release for The Hobbit film. This product has not been confirmed yet and we apologize for any confusion." Of course it hasn't been concerned, because Peter Jackson is still trying to finish up An Unexpected Journey before he begins thinking about the Extended Edition. We still expect to see it anyway, but we probably won't hear anything about it until the first Hobbit movie hits theaters first."

Mods can you move this thread to the wish list section?
Why? Peter Jackson himself confirmed that there will be an extended cut release. So it's not a Wish List topic.

It really wasn't an erroneous mention anyway. It was just them revealing plans for it even before the movie opens.

Yeah. A $20 dollar price tag.

I remember a few years back when people complained that Lucas released the Star Wars films too many times on DVD. Actually, he's a model of restraint compared to this series of movies. But for those of you who could care less, enjoy!

In other words, there isn't "technically" an Extended Edition yet, so go out and buy the Standard Edition, and when the Extended version gets released, you can buy that too.

I think hes going to end it as LOTR starts too so. And there will be LOTR flashbacks I think as well.

Cant wait myself!
13 minute feature, really good!

[Show spoiler]More walking.

Also another poster over on the movie forum mentioned that some scenes from the trailers are missing from the final film such as: Bilbo viewing the Shards of Narsil.

Joking aside we all need to remember that all films get edited down due to pacing issues. And this one will be no different.

However when watching an Extended Edtion Blu-ray in the comfort of your own home, pacing issues are not really that much of an issue.

Translation, they just want people to double dip. I will pick up each extended edition individually, or maybe wait to rent them, just in case the extended edition sucks (which i doubt). I probably won't wait for the boxset tho. With the LOTR extended dvds you had the option of just order the box for $3 shipping if you wanted to.

What are the chances this Extended Edition WON'T be released in 3D? By that I mean, Peter Jackson holds off on releasing the 3D versions "later" once he's had a chance to convert Lord of the Rings to 3D in a few years time. Then they release some sort of mega 3D extended edition boxed set with all 6 movies.

My guess... the 3D versions will be an exclusive through someone at first. Seems to happen fairly often with big releases.

Also some new stuff from Tolkien's other writing. We see what characters did, that we didn't know about. It's such a large world and Tolkien wrote so much, they have way more than they need. And PJ wont be another return to Middle Earth.

It used to happen, not so much anymore.

Interesting question on the EE being 3D or not...I guess it all depends what the market looks like when the time comes, seeing as how this series is so commerce driven.

The footage was shot in 3D so I imagine it will be the same in the EE.

100% shot in 3-D. You can see people on the sets looking at monitors with 3-D glasses in all the behind the scenes features.

Yeah. I knew it. And the first couple of production vlogs have them setting up the RED to shoot 3D.

Some critics are saying there are major pacing issues in this film, and it makes me wonder if splitting this into 3 movies was a big mistake. It's certainly a cash grab. Regardless, I can't wait to see it.
