I should have clarified that statement, as "standalone" digibooks! I'm hoping we get a standalone digibook for S2/S3. Although it's been some time since S2 has been out, so I'm doubting that's going to happen.

No...this will be much, much more. It has a lighting feature which dramatically adds plus it includes removable/movable heads and like 6 of them or so plus it can be filled with water...it should be more. It also looks to be a bit bigger than the season 2 set

I doubt it will be bigger, as S2 was a 1:1 scale replica. This could be on the order of 6:1 or maybe 4:1. Anything bigger would price them right out of the game, and McFarlane, a savy businessman, knows this. Making it water tight and adding LED lights is not a big cost.
Of we can speculate all day, until the eventual pricetag is released.

I'll end up doing what I did for Season 2. I'll buy the special edition for the exclusive digipak and sell the statue on eBay. I ended up getting the Blu for free, with just a minor amount of hassle.

Anyone know if we are going to get a 7.1 audio track again? I feel like TWD is one of the few shows that can actually utilize those extra channels and that it actually adds more depth to the show compared to other 7.1 releases.

There's no chance this will be Region free, is there? I really want the SE of this, but I also want the show. Can't really afford both

I pretty much knew the digibook wouldn't be released down the road as soon as I heard there was going to be a limited edition. I thought there was room for hope, but that time has passed.

The first season was a different story - They released the first season and didn't know exactly how well it was going to sell. Well, Walking Dead turned out to be wildly popular, so they had incentive to release a fully featured set in a digibook. By the time season 2 rolled around, they knew they had a gold mine on their hands, so they gave people an option to buy the basic packaging or get the limited edition set with an added incentive that it would come with an exclusive digibook. I expect the sales model to be the same this time around.

Going by your "gold mine" logic(which I'm not disputing) it would stand to reason that they could release a standalone digibook, to good sales.

In a perfect world, yes, but they want people to pony up for the limited edition set.

I understand, and that's happened. Sold out I believe.
So keeping with your "gold mine" theory, the studio could still make more money by releasing the digibook on it's own. It's not like this is a newfound business practice.
It should be interesting to see what type of disc packaging is given with the S3 limited edition set.

Since seasons 1&2 was region A locked, you can bet season 3 also will be that.

Long term sales are not something studios bank on though. Their focus first and foremost is working on the new season sets. Studios are most concerned in sales during those first few weeks. It's why they send out screener copies for sites to review and give them deadlines they have to make. Their interest in us as consumers is nil... They only revisit things if it suits their bottom line significantly. It's why we don't see more Friday the 13h films on blu... Didn't sell great, but the studio sort of wanted to wait to do more until there was another Friday the 13th product to tie-in the other films.

I also understand how studios work!
I'm just referring to your "gold mine" comment, which I agree with. Obviously this show is among the most watched on TV, and his incredibly marketable. Those are facts. So with that in mind, why abandon the S2 goldmine?
The iron doesn't get much hotter than right now.
As I said, previously, we'll see what the S3 packaging will be like. If it's just a standard amaray in the CE, then it would be safe to assume the studio has abandoned digipaks all together....at least in the US.
