I see what you're saying. The 3D glasses can be a pain, kind of like if we had to wear special filtered glasses to see color TV instead of black and white, or had to wear headphones all of the time just to hear the sound.

At the same time, I'd bet you're not against 3D itself, considering you probably see in three dimensions every day of your life. For those who don't value 3D, keep one eye closed before you start, and hold a bottle of soda with (red 40 coloring)three or so foot above a drinking cup, held over an expensive white carpet while trying to pour the soda into the cup without spilling it. Then come back and say seeing in three dimensions is a gimmick.

I agree, that if lackluster efforts like Star Wars Episode I 3D are the showcase examples of 2D to 3D conversions, then they need to stop or seriously consider why most 3D fans value strong 3D over subtle, flatter 3D (which mostly defeats the purpose of being 3D), but thankfully, there are improving conversions along the lines of Wrath of the Titans 3D, John Carter 3D, Immortals 3D, etc... Plus the fact that certain shots in Avatar 3D and Underworld Awakening 3D were 2D to 3D post converted, despite most shots being filmed in 3D.
Clash of the Titans was a rush job by the way, Prime Focus admitting they only had about 3 weeks to complete the 2D to 3D conversion before the release date deadline.

I agree TW. It's one of the wierdest things to me also. I would call it pure evil. I don't like to post on Facebook or send text messages but I don't hate that technology or desire to see it go away. It's like 3D broke into their house and stole the family jewels and raped the women or something.
yeah, the haters even go so far as to make 2D glasses out of the 3D glasses. And actually, there's no reason to have to do that. All they have to do is cover one of their eyes (cover one lens of the glasses) in the movie theatre.

new tecgnology? lol. 3D has been around since before the movies theirselves were ever invented.

There are actual 3D photographs of The Civil War taken at the time of The Civil War and originally photographed in 3D. And they're not the "cheap 2D to 3D cobversions" either that are so prevalent today.

nah. Pure evil are the jokers who make 2D glasses out of 3D glasses, then put them back in the recycle bin so the theatres hand them out to customers, since they want to see 3D fail so bad. ;O j/k

although it's kind of inderstandable if they did it on April 1 instead of all year round. j/k

I hope the prices for 3D blus come down quite a bit also.

I read that, unfortunately, the new Star Trek movie is only a "2D to 3D conversion"

Also, I hope I didn't give the 3D haters any ideas with my previous post.

My main gripe with 3D is that more and more movies are only being shown in 3D when they release in cinema's. I want to have the choice of seeing it in the cinema in 2D or 3D. I don't like having to pay extra ticket prices and money for glasses because there's only a 3D option for a film I would like to see.
This will only increase.

???
as for wearing glasses over your regular glasses, you might not have to, you can get 3D circularly polarized clip-ons for your glasses from amazon.com to wear at the RealD movies or if you have a polarized 3D tv at home. if there's any left.

which reminds me of the syndicated reruns of Rin Tin Tin I watched as a kid which was advertised as "IN COLOR".

However, it was just pure sepia toned over the whole picture. which kind of defeated the purpose of it being in color. At least to me.

The original black and white probably looked better.

2D to 3D conversion is to 3D like the black and white to color conversion of Rin Tin Tin is to color.

that would be an excellent wooohooo!! moment for me and my son. We love the jurassic park trilogy and watch it somewhat regularly. I have watched the trilogy in 3d using the upconversion on my tv and they looked pretty good, obviously there is a lack of depth but it was cool none the less. Fingers crossed for a release on 3dblu

Word is that Jurassic Park 3D will arrive in theaters for 2013 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 1993. 20 years goes fast.

If JP is indeed released in 3D it better be a pop out bonanza! If things don't come out into my face they can keep it.

As far as I am concerned, so far, Hollyweird has only been giving the public 2.5 D.

Poke my eyes out, Speilberg!

Yes, conversions, most of them (excluding Avengers 3D and John Carter 3D recently), have been delivering lackluster 2D to 3D conversions that aren't good examples of strong 3D. Disappointing that these studios think this is the way to go.

The Dinosaurs better jump into people's laps for Jurassic Park 3D.

I bought the DVD and Bluray versions of JP and found out that JP1 was pathetic transfer to Bluray. It looked like DVD and even worse with heavy grain.

JP2 was only slightly better. JP3 was the one which finally looked like a Bluray.

I hope Spill gets it right with 3D !

I am not counting on it after seeing how Tintin 3D was all about depth

I think beginner stereographers most of the time are afraid to separate the cameras far enough apart to get a great, powerful 3D effect, because if you push them too far apart, the eyes won't be able to join them, so they play it way too safe and end up with flatter 3D.

Hopefully JP3D will be a worthwhile conversion...

Another member posted this trailer for Jurassic Park 3D IMAX. It is supposed to be in theaters April 2013. I hope StereoD -- the company doing the conversion -- did a really good job with the 3D.

Yes, Stereo D I remember does some quality 3D conversions. Just forget what movies they worked on at the moment, but I remember seeing them as the stereographer conversion team and made a mental note of what a good job they did. Compared to most of Prime Focus' weaker 3D efforts, which will hopefully be improving soon.

I wouldn't mind a new 3D Jurassic Park either. Good suggestion. I hope the conversion here is as good as Titanic. That would be impressive.
