Calvary,

Father James meets his fate and it is witnessed by a young artistic man, possibly 14 years old. The young man runs to safety and in a short 1 or 2 second sequence you see him surrounded in a golden light. it is so subtle you wouldn't notice it if only for a subtle shift in tone.

I asked myself "wow, why does he have a golden light around him?". then I asked myself "man why am I about to burst into tears". gee, that was it I became a floodgate that opened. and then of course Father james lost his life. But the whole film is about a seedy aspect to irish Catholicism, lots of secrets and one tormented soul had something happen to him at a young age. So the golden light around the child as one beautiful and one of the most profound symbolic scenes I've seen in a movie.

The scene in Running on Empty where Christine Lahti meets her father (Steven Hill), whom she hasn't seen in many years since she went underground, in a restaurant to ask him to take her son.

I agree 100%. I loved that movie and I think it was one of Martha Plimpton's best performances also. It also shows us how much we have missed out on with Phoenix's early death.
